The most stressful time in any person’s life and most people do it at least 5 times … yes, moving home is a real pain in the gluteus maximus. I’m not even going to talk about the lawyers, the costs, the buyers and sellers, and all the other hoops one must jump through. Today I’m just going to focus on getting your home ready for resale … which will involve a lot of cleaning. So, without further ado, here’s what you need to do to make sure that some poor schmuck actually wants to buy your old house.


SCRUB DOWN | No one is going to want to buy a dirty house and so the first thing you are going to have to do is clean it from head to toe and every nook and cranny in between. Put on those rubber gloves and prepare to get liberal with the bleach. Aside from the basic dusting and vacuuming, here’s what else you need to focus on:

  • Mold | This is a major issue and if you have any mold or damp areas in your house, you are going to want to get it sorted asap, because people might buy a dusty house, but they will never by a damp and moldy one.

FIX THE BROKEN | This doesn’t concern whether your TV is on the blink as buyers won’t care about that stuff, but you need to fix any broken doors and window as well as cracked walls and ceilings. All the little cosmetic details add up and if your home is spotless, you’ll make a sale very quickly, however if the buyers keep seeing cracks and broken bits, they are never going to make you an offer.
