Maker Monday: An Aspire Exclusive Interview With Olivier Santini

In 2019, communications-adept Olivier Santini switched gears, returning to his passion for creating genre-bending art in the launch of Mojow. At Mojow, Santini crafts a quirky collection of products from TPU, a recyclable and biodegradable plastic material known for its pliancy and resistance to extreme exposures. Often mistaken for silicone, TPU, as 100% biodegradable, is more environmentally friendly, transparent, and elastic than the famed rubber. Santini uses the unusual substance to make furniture, from translucent armchairs to startlingly vivid sofas and cylindrical benches. This unconventional creator is this week’s Maker Monday, Olivier Santini.

The YOMI armchair and sofa epitomize Mojow’s style in bright, clear, balloon-like structures hemmed by wood foundations.

Andrew Joseph: Describe your design style as if you were explaining it to someone who can’t see.
Some air, glass, transparency, lightness, originality, elegance, all of this to flourish in the difference.

Andrew: If you were not a designer, you would be a …?
I would be a consultant in brand positioning and development.

At first glance, Santini’s creations attract a niche crowd, but the variety of styles within his collections make the furniture a unique addition for almost any environment.

Andrew: What are your ideal weekend plans?
Going for a 100 km run in the mountains with friends.

Andrew: Do you get your eight hours a night? What is your sleep schedule like?
I sleep 5 to 6 hours a night. I go to bed at 10:30 to 11:00 pm and get up at 4:30 am to go for a 10 or 15 km run.

Santini draws inspiration from the bold and the unconventional, utilizing radiant colors and novel structure in his MW02 chair.

Andrew: What are you most proud of?
My children: my 25-year-old son and my 8-year-old daughter.

About The Maker | For 10 years Olivier Santini has been working in marketing and communications. He puts all his energy through his support to strongly develop the activity of his clients. He likes to be different, he likes to dare, he notices that the more an idea is “crazy” the more it has a chance to succeed… So he comes up with a simple and original idea: to create a new fun, sparkling, innovative furniture design, out & indoor….. This is how MOJOW was born in 2019.

STYLE : Each project starts from a blank page and from the triangular relationship with its partners’ craftsmen, the expectations of its contemporaries and its aspirations and his aspirations as a designer. Olivier Santini works by intuition, letting himself be carried away by his sensitivity, and his very sure taste to detect the trends of tomorrow. MOJOW is successfully developing across the world.
