This month, Objective Gallery will present the first New York City solo exhibition of Los Angeles artist Vincent Pocsik. Entitled Cabinet is Me; the exhibition explores different meanings of being a body in a domestic space – the struggles, the happiness, the sexual explorations, and all the memories that also lead a person to develop feelings towards the inanimate objects watching them. The intriguing show will open to the public on October 13, 2022.
“I think of each piece as a thought experiment of contemplating what it is to be a human body in a home,” Pocsik explains. “To me, the human body plays a large role in that, what you are hearing and what you are touching.”

Pocsik’s work is versed and intrigued by the many facets of design. His creations push the boundaries of traditional mediums such as wood, glass, and metal to transform them into artworks with anatomical expressions and presences of their own. Among the pieces displayed for this exhibition are cabinets, tables, and lamps that illustrate Pocsik’s signature style, which strikes a delicate balance between lightness and heaviness, beauty, and grotesquery.
“The essence of Objective Gallery is to explore the dynamics between physical objects in relation to human feelings. Vincent Pocsik’s work engages this interaction between the visibility of human-inspired forms and the invisibility of the feelings/spirits of humans,” share Chris Shao and Marc Jebara, co-founders of Objective Gallery. “His work reveals the emotional sensibility of human reflection of themself, provoking strength and vulnerability simultaneously.”

Highlights of the exhibit include: Cabinet Is Me, a cabinet sculpture carved of solid black walnut and maple wood; Listening in the wood, a room divider carved of douglas fir with brass hinges; and Grabbing Fruit, a chandelier sculpture carved and bleached black walnut and chain. Each piece draws inspiration from the everyday existence of domestic life and Pocsik’s juxtaposed life between the city and nature.
Cabinet Is Me by Vincent Pocsik will be on display October 13 through December 16 at 315 Spring Street, New York, NY 10013.
