Original BTC designs and manufactures elegant lighting in the UK, combining industrial heritage, honest materials, and a timeless aesthetic.

Skillful artisans and craftspeople make each piece in Britain, where family-run Original BTC operates six manufacturing sites, including a bone china factory, glass factory and metal works.

The brand’s collection includes sophisticated lights for every room and type of project, ranging from subtle wall lights to eye-catching chandeliers and industrial outdoor fixtures. A key material of the Original BTC collection is delicate bone china, made in the UK’s traditional pottery center Stoke-on-Trent. Thanks to the material’s unique properties, the lights illuminate a room with a gentle glow reflected from the shade’s white glaze, while their compelling shapes and textures enrich any style of interior even when switched off.

Most of the designs are developed in-house by the Original BTC creative team. Additionally, the company has collaborated on collections with leading creatives such as design icon Sir Terence Conran and influential interior designer and architect Beata Heumann.

Original BTC was founded in 1990 by Peter Bowles. Today, it is run by his children Hettie and Charlie Bowles. With six production sites throughout the UK, all lights are assembled and quality-checked in Witney, Oxfordshire, which is also the home of the company’s headquarters.

A focus on sustainability and local communities has been integral to Original BTC since the beginning. Each light is built to last and has the potential to become an heirloom thanks to the exceptional quality of materials and workmanship. Should any part require repair, spare parts can easily be ordered. The company also sets off the carbon footprint of all UK sites and has rolled out an ambitious waste reduction and recycling scheme.

Original BTC products, which also include the two brands Davey Lighting and Beadlight, enrich homes, hotels, and workplaces in over 85 countries. The brand has showrooms in London, Paris, and New York.
