B2 Design Co has expertly blended the timeless appeal of midcentury modern design with the unique character of Palm Springs in the Thompson Palm Springs, infusing the interiors with a thoughtful mix of desert influences.
Building upon the refined aesthetic and bespoke hospitality of Thompson Hotels, B2 Design Co crafted a layered, playful design story that combines locally sourced vintage furniture, modern pieces and handcrafted furnishings from around the world. The result is an eclectic mix that’s inspired by midcentury modern design — a style synonymous with Palm Springs — but interpreted in a fresh, non-literal approach. The design of Thompson Palm Springs is a reflection of the building’s resort-style architecture and the rich culture and natural beauty of Palm Springs.
The interior design of this urban oasis subtly nods to the surrounding landscape with the use of soft stone, light woods and neutral furnishings, all beautifully accented with brass fixtures and vibrant colors featured in the specially curated and commissioned artwork. B2 Design Co created extraordinary spaces throughout the urban resort, imbuing each space with an authentic and unmistakably casual sense of luxury.
Each of the bungalow-style guestrooms at Thompson Palm Springs were designed to invite relaxation and highlight the scenic mountain views from the balcony patio, with a custom curvilinear table, gently curved sofa, and a high-gloss green lacquered mini-bar amenity unit with an onyx top and brass details. The custom terrazzo-style floor tiles include distinctly unique color accents in soft pink, green or tiger eye that complement the room’s color palette and warm lighting from custom sconces, floor lamp and stunning crystal ceiling fixture. The bathrooms are equally refined, with a custom modern barn-style door with an integrated mirror, large well-appointed walk-in showers, and a custom oversized lighted mirror on the wall.
One of the many design highlights of the hotel is Lola Rose, a destination dining venue with a midcentury modern twist, capturing the essence of the Thompson brand while drawing inspiration from London and New York City social lounges. The environment is a singular concept with local and curated flavors, and features varied, dynamic seating vignettes for both intimate nooks and large gatherings. A custom DJ booth designed to resemble a vintage MCM record cabinet seamlessly integrates modern equipment with retro aesthetics. Guests mingle at the expansive bar featuring an eclectic mix of vintage and custom furniture.
Exteriors were crafted by SMS Architecture to emulate a gateway into Palm Springs’ Design District through playful geometry blended with a midcentury style framework. The hotel sits atop a collection of ground level retail and is then sectioned into clusters of buildings each housing a number of guest rooms with private balconies and/or enclosed patios allowing for ample natural lighting and outward views of the Palm Springs skyline. Through its unique guestroom towers, the indoor/outdoor pathways for guests are adorned in lush flora with a teasing glimpse of the surrounding mountains and cityscapes — creating a true urban oasis.
B2 Design Co delivers polished, vibrant creativity and boldness in its latest hospitality interior design project. Thompson Palm Springs is a truly original concept that reflects the energy of Palm Springs in an immersive urban resort destination.
