For curator James Bacchi, BE SEATED marks his third solo exhibition of work by Eric Rewitzer in Palm Springs. “When Rewitzer presented this series of Midcentury Chairs, I jumped”, says Bacchi. “This is a total departure from his last two exhibitions. Taking the spotlight off the likes of Godzilla, Ghidorah, Mothra and Gamera for an opportunity to showcase the designs of Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, Arne Jacobsen and Frank Gehry – what can I say? This show is a curator’s Modernism Week dream.”

Eric Rewitzer notes, “This body of work traces back to my childhood in West Michigan, where these chairs were created and were simply a part of everyday life in the homes of friends and family. My college art teacher and lifelong mentor, John Walon, collected them and often spoke about their design and beauty, which sparked my early appreciation for them as objects of thoughtful design. Years later, in the early 2000’s, after moving to California, I saw an exhibition at SFMOMA that presented these chairs in pristine museum-quality condition. That experience planted the seed for this Series, BE SEATED.”
BE SEATED runs through April 10, 2026, at The Shops at Thirteen Forty Five.
