Calla Cane Shares Extraordinary Designs In Stunning New Shop

Exterior of The Shop by Calla Cane

Wondering where you can see the designs of Calla Cane in a stunning new shop setting? You may know her name from notable interior design projects in California, Florida and New England. But now, the designer has created a new studio, showroom and boutique in Rowayton, Connecticut.

Calla Cane on Creating The Shop

The Shop by Calla Cane is an extraordinary new design hub. As an added bonus, it’s close to home for Rowayton resident Cane. “The Shop was conceived to be a destination for the design community as well as the local community here in Rowayton,” said Cane.

The Shop marries Cane’s creations—and their signature emphasis on environmentally and socially responsible materials—with select home decor products curated by the Calla Cane team. Part of The Shop’s mission will be to draw attention to the artisans who created these products. “Whether somebody is a client or not, I want them to feel comfortable dropping in to browse retail and have a discussion about style, aesthetics and vision,” says Cane.

When tackling remodels, Calla Cane often turns to the talented team at Prestige Cabinetry and Design (PCD). Appropriately, the teams have also now partnered to create cabinetry. Visitors will eventually see a variety of lines and price points—from ready to install to fully custom—at The Shop. And until the full selection is ready, they will show select custom pieces.

The Shop also boasts ample space for collaboration with clients and architects. There’s room for everyone who works to realize Calla’s full range of interior design services—from renovations to furnishing consultations.

Calla Cane Reaches Opening Day

Recently, The Shop celebrated its opening with a special gathering of design professionals, community members and other special guests. “We were thrilled with the overall turnout of the event, which included not only colleagues, mentors and friends but also several local artists and tastemakers,” says Cane. “It’s always good to get this variety of people together. The results are both inspiring and energizing.” They were also energized by comestibles from a nearby favorite. “The evening was topped off with delicious bites, compliments of a personal favorite and local institution, Rowayton Seafood,” Cane adds.

As guests entered, they saw both the space and the staff arrayed in blacks, whites and neutrals—nicely complementing the art and design on display. “Our shelves are filled with a selection of carefully curated items for you and your home,” Cane explains. “Everything from indoor/outdoor pillows to JL Rocks jewelry. We also have a gallery space where we will be rotating new artists’ work throughout the year.” At the opening, guests saw works by Jean Philippe Piter, Antoine Verglas, Cas Friese, Jeff McNamara and Alexandra Krohl.” Crane seems pleased by the reaction. “It was very exciting to see the response not only to our physical space but also to the merchandise we curated for the shop. We extensively vet our products, so seeing others appreciating them as much as we do is very satisfying.”

The event was shaped with the Calla Cane brand in mind. “Our brand—which is synonymous with warm neutral minimalism—can only be accomplished by focusing on details such as scale, proportion, texture and tone,” says Cane. “Similarly, our event was the culmination of the details from the invited guests down to the playlist. Our team worked together to create a special evening displaying our newest venture.”

What’s Next for The Shop?

Though it has officially reached the finish line of opening day, The Shop’s journey is only beginning. “We are excited to bring in new vendors and we look forward to continuing to evolve,” says Cane. “I believe that the shop will be a creative place for us to grow our studio and brand,” Cane adds, promising more product to come.

There will be more events to enjoy, as well.  “We look forward to hosting events throughout the year,” said Cane, “to connect with the community and bring creatives together.”

For Cane, reaching this milestone also prompted reflection. “We are in the business of transforming spaces, so often not our own,” says Cane. “In this instance, we were both designer and client.” She seems grateful to be able to create a special place for her team and anyone who appreciates their work. “Sharing this moment with those who worked so hard to make it happen—as well as those that inspire me every day—was a remarkable experience for me both personally and professionally.”
