FAB Finds: Stunning New Tiles from Cersaie 2024

The 41st Edition of Cersaie — Italy’s premier international exhibition of ceramic tiles and bathroom furnishings — was a remarkable showcase of creativity and craftsmanship. Held annually in Bologna, this year’s event featured a stunning array of timeless classics, emerging trends (such as textural neutrals, shades of terracotta, and captivating fluted and 3D tile designs), along with innovative new creations. Below, we’ve highlighted some of our favorite new tiles introduced by some of the Ceramics of Italy brands we adore.

ABK Group’s Wide&Style ceramic “wallpaper” designs, including the enticing Net design in Alterego Cotto (right), are produced through the application of a hot digital pigment prior to being fired. This innovative process makes them easy to clean with limescale products, making them ideal for walls in wet zones and exterior façades. Equally as attractive, the brand’s Fuoriformato collection elevates large porcelain stoneware slabs into decorative panels, utilizing digital graphics along with artisanal applications of superior glazes, metal powders, and vivid colors. Shown here is the textural, three-dimensional Wavy design (left), perfect for worktops and other interior applications.

Acquario Due’s latest offerings showcase a vibrant array of graphic tiles, including Calathea (right, shown in Verge Inglese), a tile inspired by foliage and featuring a relief that creates a stunning Chiaroscuro effect. On the left, Kuspis is an architectural tile that highlights enamel within its reliefs, allowing light to reflect and impart a sense of depth. In the center, Impronte by Rinaldi boasts a ceramic body adorned with intricate reliefs crafted using plaster molds. Each design is available in a variety of finishes and color options, enhancing their versatility.

Antiche Fornaci D’Agostino’s La Lampara Collection features 20 x 20cm stoneware tiles adorned with abstract patterns, where undulating lines and vibrant hues intertwine, capturing the shimmering reflections of light that dance across the night sky of the Amalfi Coast. These tiles offer numerous configuration possibilities and come in a rich variety of colors. From left to right, the tiles are presented in: Bianco e Blu, Blu, and Corallo e Bianco.

Part of ABK Group, 14oraitaliana’s Alterego collection features innovative tiles crafted using 3D Tech, a cutting-edge technology that applies various ceramic materials through high-definition digital techniques. The process enhances any underlying graphics, resulting in tactile, visually appealing designs. On the left, a combination of Scale tiles in both large (60” x 60”) and small formats creates an eye-catching pattern in Pepper. On the right, Scale in Sage Mini (24” x 24”) showcases the collection’s versatility and appeal.

Francesco De Maio’s Geometrie D’Ombra collection delves into the allure of geometric shapes, featuring an array of circles, stripes, squares, diagonal lines, and triangles. The hand-decorated 24” x 24”: Grès Maiolicato tiles produce a striking shadow effect, enhancing the sense of three-dimensionality. The collection is an invitation to craft a unique pattern that can transform any space. Featured here are Quadrato in Nero Carbone (left) and Cerchio in Rosa Cipria (right).

Decoratori Bassanesi unveiled two spectacular new collections by Federica Biasi. Kimono (left and middle), a warm, earth-toned display of mix-and-match tiles inspired by the knots and folds of the traditional Japanese robe, offers a stunning visual experience. In a similar vein, Wǎ (right) recalls the uneven terracotta tiles often found in the architecture of rural Chinese villages. Its innovative curved form opens up a world of interesting applications, adding a sense of depth and character to any space.

Ceramica Fioranese partnered with Alessandro Pasinelli Studio to create THE_COLOR, a captivating collection of textural porcelain stoneware. The collection features various sizes and concrete-like patterns, complemented by alluring hues that allow for the creation of small-size mosaics and decorative modules. The color palette, which includes Pink, Amber, Brick, Grey-Blue, Mud, and more, can be refined with matte or polished finish options. Left: MUD, Ininity_1; Middle: Accent Pink, Mix Naturale/Lucido Rettificato. Additionally, the Petite collection (far right), draws inspiration from the rustic charm of French terracotta, offering a selection of sizes in four striking shades.

Ceramiche PIemme introduced Homey Paper Clay (left)—a stunning new ceramic collection created in collaboration with artist Paola Paronetto (far right). Characterized by soft textures and delicate matte pastel tones, Paronetto seamlessly translated her artistic vision into tile form, now offered in 60 x 120cm formats. The Cement Vibes collection (middle), features a diverse chromatic palette in two variations: Solid and Resin. Highlighted here is the tactile Handmade.

Flaviker’s Double porcelain stoneware collection takes inspiration from Portland Stone, an elegant, restrained limestone that is often used in London’s historical architecture. Plain version (middle) shown here. The Palette collection, meanwhile, focuses on painterly colors and large slabs with 10 monochromatic surfaces that mimic the feel of hand-applied resins, yielding a soft, satiny finish. A variety of compositions can be created with the brand’s large variety of modular, cut-to-size formats offered. Left: Shown in Bark and Sand; Far right: Shown in Cream, Cotto, Mou.

For those of us obsessed with concrete and concrete look-alikes, Cerdomus introduced an elegant yet fun collection aptly named Concrete Art. Avorio (left), which consists of 48” x 48” matte tiles was given an alluring decorative design, while in the bath setting, the Sabbia-hued tiles are paired with matte tiles in Tortora (right wall)—each in 48” x 48” formats.
