Anna Booth is the founder of Atlanta-based Anna Booth Interiors. With a traveled eye and a storyteller’s keen sensitivity for capturing meaningful detail, Anna creates spaces that are true expressions of beauty, emotion, and memory. Believing that no two interiors—just as no two stories—are ever the same, she approaches each new project with a philosophy that design begins with the history of the space and story of the people that live within them. The sophisticated interiors that result reflect the architecture in which they are rooted and the one-of-a-kind stories of the individuals living within them. Anna blended vintage antiques with unique artwork to add personality to this room. The captivating mirror acts as a focal point, while the vaulted ceilings expand the room’s sense of space.
Andrew Joseph: Can you describe your design philosophy in three words?
Anna Booth: Storied, restrained, authentic.
AJ: How do you stay creative and inspired?
AB: A few years ago I found that I was only exploring imagery for an end goal, to find something specific to show a client as an example. I had lost the curiosity of exploring just for the sake of exploring. It was through that realization that I created Friday Feels, a capsule of images and words found (or that found me) throughout the week, from the time I’ve set aside to explore, read, and listen to music. It is like a synthesis of all I am taking in, published Fridays on my Instagram story.
The warmth of this living room is accentuated by the harmony of earthy beige tones, a grand piano, and a fireplace, all elegantly contrasted by crisp white touches punctuated throughout.
AJ: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as a designer?
AB: Trust is essential for the creative process to create something honest.
AJ: What was the last book you read and how did it inspire you?
AB: I am currently reading Malcolm Gladwell’s book Talking to Strangers. It is a book about people, about ourselves, why we believe people because we don’t have enough doubts to not believe them, about how we operate on the assumption that people are honest, and misinterpret or fail to communicate the truth about others. Although not a book about interiors, it is a book about people, and people are what our interiors are about, so it is wildly relevant.
Brass accents pair perfectly with the marble sink in this bathroom. Reflected in the mirror is a stunning chandelier and a velvet drape that replaces a closet door and adds plushness to the sleek space.
AJ: What is your favorite place to find inspiration?
AB: People’s stories, no two are the same.
AJ: What is the most important skill for a successful designer?
AB: “If you’re gonna be a dreamer, you better be a doer.” Lainey Wilson
AJ: What’s your design pet peeve?
AB: Trends.
