Andrew Joseph: What is the most important element in a successful interior design?
Arianne Bellizaire: For me, it’s a deep understanding of how the client lives, their needs and their vision. There needs to be a balance between form and function, ensuring the space feels both beautiful and livable. Small, intentional details (like texture, layers and lighting) often set great designs apart! A successful design should stand the test of time, feeling fresh and relevant for years to come!
AJ: How do you stay creative and inspired?
AB: Travel, whether local or abroad, introduces me to fresh perspectives, color palettes and design techniques! I love going to different art galleries and museums while I travel to get inspired. Fashion trends also spark new ideas and challenge my creative eye. I am thankful to be able to work with artisans, contractors and other creatives who inspire me to think outside the box every day. My daily surroundings, from nature to architecture and even a quiet moment with a good book, can fuel inspiration in unexpected ways!

AJ: What is your favorite aspect of your job?
AB: There is nothing like seeing a client’s vision come to life! Witnessing how a well-designed space can improve their daily lives brings me immense joy. I love telling my clients’ stories through the spaces we create — whether through personal items, color choices, or design elements. Every project presents unique challenges, and I thrive on finding creative solutions. Building lasting relationships with clients and collaborating with skilled artisans makes the process deeply rewarding.
AJ: How do you balance functionality and aesthetics in your designs?
AB: I prioritize how my clients will use the space day-to-day before layering in aesthetic choices. It’s best to curate pieces that are as durable as they are beautiful, like performance fabrics, timeless finishes and functional layouts. Balancing visual harmony and practical space planning ensures a room feels effortless and intentional.

AJ: What is the most important skill for a successful designer?
AB: The ability to listen to a client’s needs, desires and challenges is essential to creating a space that feels uniquely theirs. Being able to pivot and find solutions when challenges arise is key to success. A great designer can see the full potential of a space and guide clients through the process to bring it to life. The smallest elements often make the biggest impact, so an eye for detail is non-negotiable.
