Designer Friday: An Aspire Exclusive Interview With Jill Croka

Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, interior designer Jill Croka draws imaginative cues from the natural world to create sophisticated spaces with a peaceful and ephemeral setting. Stemming from her first career as a psychotherapist, her background and exploration of healing + wellness design reiterates her core belief that there is a direct connection between our built environments and a restorative and rejuvenating experience.

Jill artfully marries the comfort of organic textures and vintage designs with exacting scale, unexpected silhouettes, activating contrast and abiding sensibility. She loves to work with patterns and colors so a place can be soft yet vibrant at the same time. Masterful execution from construction to styling for each unique space makes Croka’s work both captivating and serene.

AJ: What’s your design pet peeve?
JC: Designers using terminology that trivializes and dumbs down their design decisions. I come from a strong educational background and believe it is the designer’s job to educate the client on why they specified their selections without using words like “obsessed.”
