Andrew Joseph: If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
Lesley Myrick: My husband and I joke that my spirit animal is a peacock – the high bun I used to wear all the time reminded him of the drama of peacock plumage. (I guess my hairstyle tends to stand out?) It doesn’t hurt that teal is my absolute favorite color, and the jewel tones in peacock feathers are my ideal color palette to design with. I’ve embraced the peacock thing and even have a peacock half-sleeve tattoo reminding me to be true to myself and not to be afraid to stand out in the world.

AJ: If you could live in any home in a movie or television series, what would it be?
LM: Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment in Sex and the City, without a doubt. In my 20s, early in my interior design career, I lived in a studio apartment in Toronto that I nicknamed “Carrie” because I was obsessed with the show. I’d refer to the apartment by name and it was a little embarrassing when people realized I was talking about my home, not a human! I loved the quirky aesthetic of Carrie’s apartment on the show, and, of course, her massive closet.

AJ: What’s a guilty pleasure you have?
LM: This is just a pleasure, I don’t even feel guilty about it! About once a quarter, I book a solo 2-night vacation at a spa or boutique hotel to take a break, breathe, and reset myself. (And let’s be real, I often bring a little bit of work to do while enjoying a glass of wine.) I’m an introvert who needs a lot of downtime, so between running Lesley Myrick Interior Design, being a wife, being a mom to two young kids, and all the things, I get pretty worn out. A couple of days alone does wonders to refresh my spirit and energy and I come back as a better wife, mom, and designer.

AJ: What’s one ingredient you put in everything?
LM: Garlic. OMG garlic.

AJ: Style (or design) icon?
LM: Jenna Lyons, former president and executive creative director of J. Crew. I admire how she mixes high and low, masculine and feminine, delicate and chunky – she’s mastered (heck, she created) the effortless “cool girl” look. The juxtaposition of an army jacket and sequined skirt is always welcome, in my book.

AJ: Favorite tea to decompress, and in what mug?
LM: I was born and raised in Canada, so tea with milk is totally my thing. My favorite is President’s Choice Chocolatey Chai tea, which I pick up when I’m back home visiting family. My tea is always in a huge oversized mug with a generous splash of skim milk.

AJ: What are some of the podcasts you listen to and why?
LM: I’m a lifelong learner, and many of the podcasts I love and consume regularly are about business and money mindset. A Well-Designed Business, Chill & Prosper, The Business of Home, Designed by Wingnut Social, and Biz Chix are a few favorites. For fun, I love History of the 90s, Basic! (all about the history of basic cable), Sawbones (weird medical history), What Are You Wearing (fashion, dah-ling!), and America’s Pop Culture Trivia Show (because I’m a trivia nerd).

About the Designer | Born and raised in Canada to British parents, creativity was embedded in Lesley Myricks’s DNA. Her grandmother, an oil painter and pianist, nurtured her with art classes while her parents supported her in musical theatre, piano, dance, and vocal lessons. After receiving her honors diploma in interior design and gaining experience alongside both a celebrity interior designer and couture furnishings artisan, an opportunity of a lifetime presented itself: to travel the globe as a professional vocalist, singing at noteworthy venues around the world.

During her international travels she was inspired by stunning art and architecture, and with a decade of design experience behind her, Lesley felt called to launch Lesley Myrick Interior Design.
