A Los Angeles-native, Lindsey Colhoun is the founder of Lindsey Colhoun Design, a firm that specializes in crafting spaces that evolve gracefully over time. Raised by an accomplished interior designer (her mother), Lindsey grew up understanding that your home is your sanctuary, a place to entertain, laugh and gather; A philosophy that she has carried into her design work. Lindsey and her team don’t follow fleeting trends or push clients into a mold. Instead, they craft spaces that reflect your essence, where every design choice carries purpose and heart. From grand concepts to the finest details, they work closely with you to create a home that not only looks beautiful but also feels deeply personal. Because for Lindsey and her team, it’s not just about design — it’s about creating the perfect backdrop for life’s most meaningful moments. AJ: What is the most important element in a successful design project?
Lindsey Colhoun: At Lindsey Colhoun Design, we believe the essence of exceptional design lies in harmonizing creativity with functionality, while thoughtfully reflecting each client’s background, lifestyle and personal story. For us, it’s more than just aesthetics — it’s about crafting spaces that are not only beautiful and timeless but also deeply personal and purposeful.
Every project we undertake is tailored to your way of living, incorporating meaningful details and curated touches that make your home uniquely yours. We strive to create environments that exude understated, relaxed luxury — spaces that feel elevated yet lived-in, where refined design meets real life, and every corner supports the moments that matter most.
Andrew Joseph: What is your favorite design-related quote?
LC: “The details are not the details. They make the design.” — Charles Eames.

AJ: What is the most important skill for a successful interior designer?
LC: The most important skill for a successful interior designer is truly listening — to the client’s vision, their lifestyle, and the stories that will make their house a home. While we know beauty when we see it, the real magic lies in discovering your unique version of it. Our approach focuses on translating your ideas into refined, functional spaces that feel effortlessly timeless yet unmistakably you.
AJ: How do you keep up with the latest design trends?
LC: While we stay informed about current design trends, our focus remains on enduring styles and iconic silhouettes that transcend passing fads. This approach ensures that our designs remain relevant and cherished over time.
AJ: Can you describe your design philosophy in three words?
LC: Layered, functional, timeless.

AJ: What is your favorite place to find inspiration?
LC: I find endless inspiration in nature. There’s something truly captivating about the organic textures, layered colors and raw materials found in the natural world — they tell a story that feels both timeless and grounding.
This fascination with nature deeply influences our design approach. We love incorporating elements like natural wood, stone and earthy tones to create spaces that feel warm, authentic, and connected to the world around us. It’s about bringing the outside in — capturing that sense of calm, balance, and effortless beauty that nature does so well — and weaving it into spaces that feel both lived-in and elevated.
AJ: What is your favorite thing about being a designer?
LC: One of my absolute favorite parts of being a designer is the ability to visualize what a space can be — to see its full potential long before it takes shape. There’s something incredibly rewarding about taking that initial vision and guiding it through the design process, layer by layer, until it becomes a reality. But the real magic? It’s in that moment when the client sees the finished space for the first time — when they’re completely blown away by the transformation. Watching their excitement, knowing we’ve created something that not only looks beautiful but also feels like them — that’s the part that never gets old.
