Marcy Garcia believes that interior design isn’t just about creating beautiful spaces, but that it goes deeper within. Her approach for The MG Design Lab concentrates on making spaces work and making lives easier, safer, and more pleasant. Not only does she strive to create for her client’s needs, but she does it in an environmentally-conscious way. All of her interiors incorporate authentic, modern decor, with earthy charisma and timelessness. Introducing this week’s Designer Friday, Marcy Garcia.
This custom built living room in Aventura, FL is made up of a combination of natural woods, materials, and 3D organic porcelain tiles. Perfectly tall ceilings and natural light with a pool just around the corner.
Andrew Joseph: You’re the newest Crayola color. What color are you and why?
Marcy Garcia: Ohhh, I would be a proud Blush. This color can be adapted in so many different ways to add sophistication to any interior setting and it totally adds that “Je ne sais quo” touch. It’s soft yet dramatic, romantic yet sophisticated, feminine yet can be neutral when combined with the right colors, furniture, accessories and definitely, the right state of mind. It’s universal, charming, and genuinely beautiful. Clients are often reluctant to use it at first, as they perceive it as regular pink. Luckily, once it’s in the interior, it quickly becomes the favorite in the room. I am pretty sure all you women out there, understand my point. Who doesn’t use Blush when wanting and extra fanciness and kick?
Andrew: What is something you hope to see trending in design in the future?
Marcy: Mindful and sustainable interiors will definitely lead this industry. Mindfulness and sustainability are one of my top priorities, both at work and in personal life. I am certain that interiors will need to not only be sustainable, but will be expected to improve our comfort, drive better choices, and enhance the health and wellbeing of people who live, work, and learn inside them.
Marcy once said, “It’s creating and providing people with opportunities to live and work in healthy places and spaces with less stress and greater overall health and well-being.”
Andrew: What are you most proud of?
Marcy: I am very proud to be the woman I have become. Colombian born, creating my own interior design business was a challenge I was ready to take on. Despite the many obstacles on my path and people who were against me, I am happy to be doing what I love every single day. Most importantly, I am proud that my profession has become more than just my career, but my life’s mission. I am an interior designer whose goal is to create sustainable and mindful interiors that support human health, well-being, and comfort. Amen!
Andrew: What’s a guilty pleasure you have?
Marcy: Ohhhh… wine, wine, and, once again, wine. There’s something magical about having a glass of wine at the end of a long workday. There’s something about the feeling of Zen and relaxation sipping wine can give you. Sit at a nice cozy corner with a good book, a glass of wine, and forget about the world!
For this little girl’s room, Marcy wanted the room to be as interactive as possible. She painted the walls ⅔ of the way and placed wallpaper on the ceiling. Adding that hanging chair was definitely the icing on the cake.
Andrew: What would your dream project or dream client be right now?
Marcy: In the light of these rapidly changing and challenging times, we need to recognize that building interior spaces goes beyond the aesthetics and understand that our individual health, the health of others, and the state of the environment are all affected by our choices. Clients that acknowledge and accept the challenge of building spaces that harness the built environment as a vehicle to support human health, well-being, and comfort are my all-time favorite clients. As always, I want to continue working with people who understand that the interior is not an assembly of pretty furniture, but an environment that helps to improve the nutrition, fitness, mood, sleep, comfort, and performance of its occupants.
