Tiffany Howell is a jack of all artistic trades, but Night Palm is a passion project come to life. A music video producer, director, and director manager, Howell switched gears in 2016 to launch the interior design firm with her partner, William Melton. Howell’s unleashed zeal is evident in modernistic designs that refuse to settle for one style or shade. In only a few years, Night Palm’s chic, imaginative interiors have gained the attention of high-end clients and publications like Architectural Digest and Domino. Introducing this week’s Designer Friday, Tiffany Howell.
Howell brings an airy Miami room together with quirky furniture and accessories that reflect light from a glass wall overlooking the water.
Andrew Joseph: You’re the newest Crayola color. What color are you and why?
Tiffany Howell: I would be a cheetah crayon, as it’s my favorite color.
AJ: Describe your design style as if you were explaining it to someone who cannot see.
TH: My design style is a juxtaposition of lush and romantic with a rock and roll edge.
AJ: What is the last book you read?
TH: Slow Days, Fast Company by Eve Babitz.
AJ: If you weren’t a designer, you’d be a…?
TH: Flower farmer with a miniature donkey rescue.
AJ: What are three words to describe where you live?
TH: Sexy, playful, and sanctuary.
With intricate wallpaper, and warm-toned, contemporary furnishings, Night Palm brings visual magic to the production offices of television and digital media company Story27.
AJ: What are your ideal weekend plans?
TH: Saturday morning, I would cook a yummy breakfast with my family and then take a dip in the pool. I’d lounge around and read poetry while listening to my favorite records. Then, a quick nap and early cocktails with friends as the sun goes down. Sundays are for flea markets, art galleries, and long lingering lunches.
AJ: What’s something you always travel with?
TH: I never leave my house without my “Mother” crystal. It keeps the good energy going.
AJ: What would be the name of your debut album?
TH: Night Palm, obviously!
AJ: What was your first job?
TH: In high school, I was a dance instructor and choreographer.
At the Story27 offices, Howell infuses a neutral color palette and carefully spaced setting with 70s style furniture designs for a calm and creative environment.
AJ: How would you describe your personal style?
TH: I would describe my personal style as vintage chic comfort. I adore Frankie, but vintage YSL, Gucci, and Celine are my first love. I always incorporate my Nana’s vintage jewelry into my style choices. I am also obsessed with sneakers and bags.
AJ: What would your dream project or dream client be right now?
TH: I would love to design a village boutique hotel in Italy or France. My dream client would be Harry Styles!
AJ: What are you most proud of?
TH: I am most proud of my son. I’m also proud of a poem I wrote that was selected to be published in a book created for Leonard Cohen’s 75th birthday. He is a huge muse for me.
AJ: Style (or design) icon?
TH: David Bowie and Gabriella Crespi.
Her work encompasses the entire spectrum of residential and commercial spaces from boutique hotels to high-end retail and office spaces to residential homes, primarily for artist and celebrity clientele. She draws inspiration from a myriad of creative sources beyond the design and architectural world including fashion, music, poetry, and art, to create design narratives for clients that are as unexpected as they are beautiful and soulful. Her work is often described as moody and romantic with a mix of fashion and rock and roll, and is routinely published in high-end design publications like Architectural Digest, Domino and California Home and Design.
