Andrew Joseph: What inspired you to become a designer?
Todd Raymond: My grandmother, I think. She was stylish and well-traveled, and I remember her always having unique furniture and objects in her home. Looking back, that rubbed off on me. She gave me my first Architectural Digest magazine to read at an early age, so that has always stuck in my mind.
AJ: What is your favorite aspect of your job?
TR: I am getting to meet amazing clients and learn about their worlds. I used to work in restaurant hospitality, and I thrive on conversations and learning about other people and how they set up their own lives.

AJ: What is the most important skill for a successful designer?
TR: Communication! It’s so important to our firm and me to meet clients’ expectations. Without communication of things, both in the details and on a macro-level, it’s hard to anticipate what a client is envisioning for their space.
AJ: What’s your favorite cocktail?
TR: Negroni!
The bedroom’s windows align perfectly with the bed, flooding this space with natural light and creating an ideal setting to wake up refreshed and inspired by the surrounding cityscape.
AJ: If you weren’t a designer, what would you be and why?
TR: I’d be a chef and restaurateur, I think. I used to work in restaurants, and I really loved that world. These are similarities to design: it’s crafting an experience and space that can change the way someone feels.
