Organizing a drawer may not have, historically, been the most glamorous activity, but eggersmann is prepared to change that. The premier German kitchen company inherently understands the marriage of form and function, especially for spaces that are prone to disorganization or clutter. With their broad scope of home drawer interior solutions, you can design and customize drawers tailored specifically to your home and your needs — and not just for the kitchen. These chic custom drawer inserts can be used within eggersmann-designed cabinetry in any room of your home, from the bedroom to the office to the bathroom and everywhere in between.
As our home and workspaces continue to be blurred, it’s important to adhere to the adage “Out of sight, out of mind” and allow yourself to completely reset by putting your work away each evening and removing clutter from the space.
“Everything in German design is about ergonomics,” explains Evan Soltoff, VP of Operations at eggersmann USA. “As a German company, most of our aesthetic is all about the line; it’s all about the function of the inside and the calming aesthetic of the line on the outside.”
But that doesn’t mean that their designs can’t get a little playful with a pop of color, like the variety of bright color options available to line the drawer’s interior. “We can certainly add color to the product,” says Soltoff. “But have it just come out when the drawer’s open, like a big reveal, and you don’t see it all the time.”
Every designer knows that storage is only as good as the function it provides. Clients often throw around arbitrary numbers of their desired closet or storage space in their closet or bathroom, but Soltoff reminds us that “it doesn’t mean anything unless the space is accessible.”
One of the first action items when a client enlists eggersmann to design a space is to sit down together and get organized with a game plan, starting with the cabinet exterior. But what comes next tends to surprise them: an interior plan for every drawer, nook and cranny. “What our clients are looking for is to maximize the purpose of the space, how do I use this in a more efficient way? How do I use it aligned to the way I live now, or the way that I will be living in the future?” says Soltoff of the questions an eggersmann designer might ask.
Even beyond the ability to customize, a priority that many clients have is the flexibility of interior drawer storage. “The inserts are modular, so they can move from one drawer to the next and generally, the sizes can be adjusted and varied to go from one drawer to the next,” explains Soltoff. Meaning, for example, if a homeowner loves to cook and is right-handed, the spice drawer may be placed on the right side of the stove. But if a left-handed guest acts as a sous-chef, the spice drawer can easily swap sides to accommodate.
One trend that Soltoff thinks is here to stay is the integration of electronics into storage solutions, which he says has become standard. eggersmann partnered with three major power solutions companies at a factory level in the U.S. in order to prep cabinetry for the integration of their technology. And the opportunities to customize such drawer interiors are seemingly endless. “Some people want to have their phone nearby, but don’t want it out on the counter, or they want to charge it while it’s in a drawer, or they want to open up a drawer to use an appliance without having to go searching for a plug,” says Soltoff. “Everyone wants this clean look; they don’t want cluttered items on the countertop, and we can plan for that.”
