“Isis II”, Vanessa Barragão
This week, Dernier Cri gallery presents Interwoven: Everything Touches Everything Else, a group exhibition exploring the unseen threads that bind material, maker, and the natural world. Across disciplines, the works in this exhibition reveal a shared language of transformation, where raw elements are shaped, layered, and brought into relation with one another.
The exhibition opens to the public on Thursday, May 7th, and will be on view through Friday, June 12th.
“Crowns”, Windy Chien
Threads — both literal and conceptual — run throughout Interwoven, binding disparate forms into a cohesive whole. At a moment when our relationship to the natural world feels increasingly fragile, the works offer a reflection on interdependence. Everything touches everything else.
“Blue Square”, Suzanne Tick
On view will be wall sculptures by Vanessa Barragão, composed of recycled wool and synthetic fibers; a woven sculpture from Windy Chien’s Crowns series, in which knotted, ribbon-like cordage forms a crisp, squared column that can be hand-manipulated to shift and settle into evocative shapes; works from Jonsara Ruth’s Furniture Renovations series, where disabled iconic pieces are reimagined in conversation with their original makers; assemblages by Jay Sylvester, woven from bittersweet, honeysuckle, and wisteria vines with bamboo and found materials; and works by textile designer and weaver Suzanne Tick, including pieces from her Mylar Balloons and Woven Wire Hangers series.
