After 14 memorable years on Sacramento Street, Chef Tyler Florence’s first Bay Area restaurant, Wayfare Tavern, will be relocating to a larger two-story building in the Financial District this April. Offering the iconic establishment exciting new opportunities, the upgraded space, at the intersection of Pine and Battery Streets, will feature a reimagined design by Jon de la Cruz of award-winning residential and hospitality design firm DLC-ID.
“Partnering with Jon de la Cruz and moving just a few blocks from our current is an amazing opportunity to keep investing in the city we love by revitalizing and celebrating it through food, design, and warm hospitality,” says Florence. “I can’t wait to continue our tradition of serving up timeless Americana in a way that only San Francisco can inspire.”
“The splendor of San Francisco’s rich culinary history served as our guiding inspiration for the look and feel of Wayfare Tavern,” says de la Cruz, who is renowned for his innovative restaurant designs.
Handpicked to lead the interior design, the designer brings his signature blend of heritage and warmth to the reimagined space. Channeling the spirit of San Francisco’s Barbary Coast, the design pairs exposed brick and timber beams with refined furnishings and rich wood tones, striking a balance between grit and grace. Generous windows bathe the room in natural light, while a palette of spice tones, deep greens, and crimson accents sets a mood both bold and inviting. Custom lighting nods to the Gold Rush era, adding a touch of theatrical elegance. The result? A modern American tavern layered with history, comfort, and a distinctly local soul.
