JS Interiors Sitting Room at the 2022 Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse

In a nod to the home’s era, when the creation and variety of wallpaper flourished, JS Interiors’ inspiration for the Sitting Room started with an incredible wallcovering: a trompe l’oeil printed pattern imitating 19th century padded silk from Pierre Frey. The material envelopes the tiny room in a whimsical, colorful and silky-seeming backdrop, a love letter to the firm’s perennial inspiration, textiles. Small decorated rooms like this Sitting Room have been found in modern interiors dating back to the Renaissance. These rooms were used for contemplation and decorated to reflect the inhabitant’s hobbies, travels and inner life. One such inspiration for our room and its trompe l’oeil wall treatment is the Studiolo from the Ducal Palace in Gubbio installed at the Met, featuring walls adorned with illusionary objects and motif reflecting the Duke’s life. The Sitting Room at 145 Columbia Heights is conceived in that spirit, a celebratory, personal study. Local, global and handmade furnishings create a petite bastion for conversation, creativity, and daydreaming.

With offices in Tennessee and Connecticut, JS Interiors specializes in residential and boutique commercial spaces that are thoughtfully-inspired, refined and joyful.
