As a designer for big-name hotel chains such as Marriott, Hilton, and Starwood, her sense of ambiance and functionality within spaces has helped her develop one of the leading design brands rooted in Latin American style. With seven showrooms around the world, Adriana runs a family-owned company, where sophistication and style are key for both her staff and the product they produce. Her furniture line, Adriana Hoyos Furnishings, is a comprehensive catalog of anything one could need while designing a modern hotel or restaurant design. Having designed for years, Hoyos knows what designers want to see and shop from while evoking luxury and relaxation in their spaces. Meet the hospitality heroine below in this week’s #MakerMonday.
Andrew Joseph: What’s your wakeup ritual?
Adriana Hoyos: I wake up and do my 10-to-15 minutes stretching exercises. Then I get on my phone to see what my day looks like and how to best multitask.
Andrew: How do you maintain a work/life balance?
Adriana: I like to mix pleasure into my business travels, such as finding a cool new restaurant, or spending a few extra days in a new city/country looking for inspiration.
Andrew: Dream country to work in? Or dream project to take on?
Adriana: Dream project would be to design a unique hotel in the GALÁPAGOS ISLANDS with a sense of place with a relaxed and sophisticated lifestyle
Andrew: Most adventurous thing you’ve done in your life?
Adriana: Ride in an airplane to a deserted island landing at our own risk.
Andrew: How would you define your work in three words?
Adriana: Passion; Inspiration; Satisfaction.
Andrew: If you had one more hour in the day what would you do with it?
Adriana: Have a one-hour massage every day.
Andrew: What’s inspiring you in life (in the industry) right now?
Adriana: Nature’s natural textures and shapes.
Andrew: Best advice you’d give your teenage self?
Adriana: Listen to your gut feeling.
Andrew: Favorite place to view art?
Adriana: Miami during Art Basel. Love it….
Andrew: If you made a documentary, what would it be about?
Adriana: How good design impacts a life of a family.

Adriana: Watching my son and daughter growing as great professionals and human beings.
