Andy Blank sounds like a character’s name from a book, and for good reason. The modern artist never shows his face, and his website is beautifully simple; there are no bells and whistles. Blank sells art for two hundred dollars or less, shipped fully framed with hanging equipment and instructions, with the ideology that art should be accessible to everyone. With fun, abstract, rebellious pieces, Blank uses his eye for design to spread color and creativity to contemporary art lovers. Andrew Joseph: What is one thing no one knows about you?
Andy Blank: What I look like.
Andrew: Favorite piece of clothing you own?
Andy: Anything not covered in paint, glue or tape.
Andrew: Style (or design) icon?
Andy: Andy Warhol for obvious reasons.
Andrew: What would you like to be remembered for?
Andy: Rearranging the art world and flipping it on its head.
Andrew: How do you maintain a work/life balance?
Andy: It’s easy; in my case, my life has always been art. But if I had to say something about it I’d say don’t separate them.
Andrew: A skill you’re working on mastering.
Andy: Art framing and hanging. How art is framed and hung is part of the piece itself. I am currently working on redesigning the frame I send out with all my works on paper and photography and am constantly discovering new and exciting ways to how art can be displayed.
Andrew: Favorite City to recharge.
Andy: Brooklyn. It has its own energy and people which is different from anywhere else in the world. Anything you’ll ever need is in this city.
Andrew: Favorite place to view art
Andy: In someone’s home.
