Andrew Joseph: What is your favorite design-related quote?
Davina Ogilvie: Coco Chanel once said “Elegance is restraint.” Interiors are compelling to me personally when I walk away thinking about the atmosphere rather than the individual pieces. A space should leave one with an impression, not wondering about the cost of the passementerie.
AJ: What was the last book you read and how did it inspire you?
Augusta Hoffman: “The Creative Act” by Rick Rubin. There can be so much pressure to constantly churn out new, creative ideas. This book taught me that by slowing down and being truly mindful of my surroundings, inspiration can be absorbed anywhere.
AJ: What would your dream project or dream client be right now?
DO: I am looking forward to working on projects incorporating Wovn Home’s new collaboration of fabrics and window treatments developed with Augusta Hoffman. The colors and textures are so versatile and I am excited to see them in a range of interiors.

AJ: What is your favorite design era and why?
AH: Neoclassical. I love that there is a formality and sophistication to neoclassical designs while still showing restraint. Nothing is overly ornate.
AJ: Style (or design) icon and why?
DO: Carolina Herrera has always struck me for her understated elegance. That sensibility as it manifests in her clothing and her interiors is a design touchstone, and that she built an enduring brand is inspiring.
AJ: Can you describe your design philosophy in three words?
AH: Elegant, refined but still comfortable.

AJ: Best advice you’d give your teenage self?
DO: Work hard, avoid worrying too much about the small stuff, and have fun.
AJ: Can you tell us about a design trend you are excited about?
AH: I love the recent pull towards earthy, brown tones in interiors. These colors are well represented in my textile collaboration with Wovn Home. While in the past, I have often favored all-white window treatments for their timeless appeal, I am excited to utilize more saturated, moody hues, adding depth and richness to the spaces I design.
AJ: What is your favorite aspect of your job?
AH: After years of work, it is so gratifying to finally see clients use their personal spaces as we designed. This year on Thanksgiving, I received several messages and pictures from recent clients in their beautiful dining rooms – filled with family, friends and warmth. This makes all of the stress of the job so very worth it.
