Jennifer Hunt is the founder and creative director of Dogwood Hill, a Birmingham-based stationery brand known for its painterly florals, timeless patterns and Southern charm. A northwest Alabama native, Hunt launched the company in 2014 after recognizing a gap in the market for customizable, art-driven paper goods that didn’t require long lead times or high design fees. What began as a love for beautiful stationery has grown into a brand offering elevated paper products for all of life’s celebrations — from weddings and holidays to everyday organization. In 2025, Jennifer expanded her vision with the launch of Dogwood Hill Home, a collection of wallpaper, fabric and home décor featuring 38 curated patterns developed in partnership with a U.S.-based manufacturer committed to craftsmanship and detail. Through both brands, Jennifer remains dedicated to celebrating original art through thoughtfully designed, impeccably crafted products that bring beauty and joy to the home. Andrew Joseph: Can you describe your design philosophy in three words?
Jennifer Hunt: Classic, approachable, colorful.
AJ: What is the most challenging project you’ve worked on and how did you overcome it?
JH: Launching our wallpaper and fabric collection! I had been thinking about it for a while and decided to move forward with it during the pandemic. I went on a virtual trip around the world looking for the best manufacturer in the right location and the perfect materials, which took quite a while to land on — not to mention deciding which patterns to start with and converting them into perfect repeats at the right scale. Then, getting the color right turned out to be a lesson in patience! The wallpaper color came first, and then we had to perfectly match it to the corresponding fabric. The whole process, from the time I decided to do it until the time we launched, took about four years and included a switch in manufacturers, which meant all our files had to be set up differently. Sometimes I felt like abandoning the whole thing, but I’m so glad I didn’t!
AJ: Can you tell us about a design trend you’re excited about?
JH: Southern Living recently published an article saying that blues and greens are the new neutrals for 2025. I couldn’t be more thrilled, since those are my favorite colors, and you’ll see a lot of that combination on our holiday cards, stationery and in our wallpaper and fabric collection!

AJ: Can you describe a project you’re particularly proud of?
JH: We have an incredible holiday card collection launching in September with Williamsburg! We visited their museum archives and selected historic wallpapers, fabrics and rare book engravings that will adorn photo holiday cards, invitations, stationery and wrapping paper. I’m so proud of what we created, and I love the historical element of each piece. Some of the wallpapers date to the 1750s!
AJ: How do you stay creative and inspired?
JH: I love travel, history and food. A lot of our travel revolves around all of those things! My favorite trips are those where we can immerse ourselves in other cultures, learn about their history and experience their cuisine. You can’t help but be inspired when you leave the familiar and explore beautiful and unique places in the world.
AJ: What was the last book you read and how did it inspire you?
JH: I’m finishing up The Armour of Light by Ken Follett. It’s about life at the end of the 18th century in England and how the invention of new machinery changes the lives of the characters. It is fascinating in the sense that things are always changing, and we must adapt as the changes come. For me personally, as I continue leading Dogwood Hill, it inspires me to make our processes as efficient as possible while also maintaining high standards, knowing that a strong and capable team is the backbone of our business.

AJ: How do you stay organized while working on multiple projects?
JH: I’m not sure I’m the best person to answer this question because I don’t write anything down! I have tried to use a planner in the past, but it never sticks. I always say that to-do lists stress me out! Maybe it’s because they would be so long that it would feel paralyzing. But I always get through everything (with frequent reminders!) — somehow it works!
AJ: If you weren’t doing what you are now, what would you be and why?
JH: In another life, I would be a book editor. Is there a role right now where publishers would send me books to read before they hit shelves? I need to know! I sometimes find mistakes in books and sometimes think, “I could have caught that if they had sent me the book in advance!” What a fun job!
AJ: Who is your style (or design) icon?
JH: Carolina Herrera. I adore her style and classic taste. She epitomizes elegance. Her clothing designs have always been my favorite — effortless and chic, all the time.
