Andrew Joseph: What inspired you to become an artist?
Jeremy Booth: Over the past decade, my career has evolved significantly leading me to become an artist. It started with being a self-taught graphic designer, then transitioned to a digital commercial illustrator, and finally finding my niche as a Western artist. The inspiration for this shift came from my deep appreciation for Western landscapes, reignited interest in Western film prompted by shows like Yellowstone, admiration for Western artist Mark Maggiori, and a strong desire to move away from commercial art to pursue my own artistic interests.

Initially, I explored Western art digitally by creating a series before moving on to other projects. However, I developed a true passion for it and eventually decided to pick up a brush and try my hand at painting it on canvas, staying in the Western genre. This decision was made a year and a half ago, and I have been dedicated to painting Western art ever since.

Honoring the spirit of the American West, Jeremy Booth uses bold contrasts and simplicity to capture the strength and honesty of ranching culture.

AJ: Can you describe your design philosophy in three words?
JB: Strong, Honest, Western.

AJ: What is your favorite place to find inspiration?
JB: Being among cowboys, ranchers, and Western landscapes is where I find inspiration. At least once a year, my wife and I travel to ranches out West to photograph cowboys for reference material. We then take this material back to my studio, where it informs my body of work over the next months or year. It is in the moments of being on the ranch, talking with cowboys, and documenting their lifestyle that I am most inspired. The simplicity of their lifestyle, the hard work, and the adventure all fill me with creativity. They are the kindest and most generous people I’ve met. I now paint to pay tribute to them.

AJ: What’s your favorite cocktail?
JB: As a Kentucky boy, where most of the world’s bourbon is made, my favorite cocktail is an Old Fashioned. In my opinion, a good bar is one that can make a solid Old Fashioned. It’s simple to make and such a classic.

AJ: What is the most important element in a successful artist?
JB: In my own experience, I feel that consistency, determination, and willingness to put in the work will lead to success in anything, including being an artist. You have to show up every day, rain or shine, and give it your all. It will likely not happen overnight, but keep going. It took me over a decade to be where I am today. Just keep going, keep exploring, and keep painting.
