With years of substantial experience and coming from a second generation family in design, Marta Sala has been able to design intricate and heavily detailed furniture pieces. She believes that designers are still architects who tend to view the bigger picture of projects. Please help me continue this journey of Maker Mondays featuring Marta Sala.
This chair was designed by architects, Lazzarini & Pickerin. They carefully chose the colors to contrast the rest of the “Drawing Room.”
Andrew Joseph: Describe your design style as if you were explaining it to someone who cannot see.
Marta Sala: Someone told me that those pieces of design look like me, understated, elegant, useful, and well-built. I consider them intelligent and beautiful, contemporary with heritage, the talent of Lazzarini & Pickering, supported by my vision and my craftsman knowledge. They are real pieces of design, so Italian, so ethical.
Andrew: What is something you hope to see trending in design in the future?
Marta: Pieces helping clients to leave peacefully; so well thought and well done, more and more well done. Quality is really my goal.
Andrew: Are you a good cook? If so, what’s your specialty?
Marta: Just amazing pasta, I invent recipes each time and it’s amazing. Next time in Paris you will have to taste. On the 9th of January, when we had the event preview with the Parisien professional, due to the strike, I was cooking for them …it’s was a great and funny evening.
Touches of gold are scattered around this bedroom as well as finishing touches of brutalism and geometric details.
Andrew: What are three words to describe where you live?
Marta: In beauty, working on intelligence, with a huge sense of humility.
Andrew: What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
Marta: The hours and hours I spend working. But it’s normal, everybody has to deal with this by himself.
Andrew: What was your first job?
Marta: Seller in a bookshop during Christmas, when I was a student
Andrew: Do you get your eight hours a night? – what is your schedule like?
Marta: No, at all, unfortunately, 5/ 6 hours. But I love to sleep on the plane and I travel a lot.
