Fisher & Paykel: Parkville Kitchen

Little remained of the original decorative features in this Edwardian-era semi-detached home in the inner city neighborhood of Parkville. “Rather than try to replace these features, we opted for a freshening,” notes Carole Whiting, who took on the brief from the clients, a couple with two sons. “We gave it a casual, relaxed makeover with clean lines and warm tones, offset by blue tones in the living room.” The kitchen occupies a central position in the home, with an open plan living area to the rear.

“When we took on the brief we likened the project to a pair of jeans: comfortable, durable, non-gender-specific,” quipss Whiting. “We also used this as an aesthetic reference for the blue sofas (not pictured), the orange-toned dining chairs and copper tapware, which allude to the stitching and rivets on a classic pair of denim jeans.”
