To celebrate the 40th anniversary of its In Motion Business Unit, Poltrona Frau has unveiled Vanity Fair XC In Motion, a limited edition piece that brings together timeless design and the artistic vision of Italian Futurism.
The project transforms one of the brand’s most iconic designs into a collector’s piece through a visual language that reflects the identity of In Motion and its enduring culture of movement.
From its first collaborations in the 1920s and 1930s — including the bespoke interiors created for Vincenzo Lancia’s cars — to the establishment of the In Motion Business Unit in 1986 with the Lancia Thema 8.32 featuring a Ferrari engine, Poltrona Frau has developed a distinctive expertise in mobility interiors. Over the decades, the Business Unit has brought the brand’s artisanal heritage into highly demanding technical environments, where precision, durability and innovation are fundamental requirements.
Over time, In Motion has expanded its design expertise, strengthening the dialogue between craftsmanship, materials research and advanced technologies, and establishing itself as a benchmark in the design of exclusive interiors for the automotive, aviation and marine industries.
To celebrate the anniversary, Poltrona Frau In Motion has chosen to start from one of the brand’s timeless icons and transform it into a collectible art object: Vanity Fair XC In Motion, a Limited Edition of 40 pieces in which the brand’s heritage meets a contemporary visual language inspired by the Italian avant-garde of the 20th century.
For this special edition, the artwork “Dinamismo assoluto della mano sinistra” (“Absolute Dynamism of the Left Hand”) by Futurist artist Ivo Pannaggi (Macerata 1901–1981) was selected.
In “Dinamismo assoluto della mano sinistra”, the artist distinguishes between relative motion and absolute motion, identifying force-lines as the plastic expression of dynamism: essential signs that, in absolute motion, are “inherent in the object itself”. This concept echoes the identity of Poltrona Frau, where the hand — understood as a culture of making and artisanal precision — lies at the heart of every creation, in harmony with the brand’s historic claim, “Intelligence in Our Hands.”
The entire illustration is digitally printed on Pelle Frau® ColorSphere Impact Less leather, reflecting the brand’s ongoing commitment to innovation in materials and tanning processes, a journey that began in 2022 and continues to support a more responsible and conscious vision of luxury.
The color palette, composed of warm and luminous tones — from gold to amber, from ochre to burnt orange, through shades of coral red and tobacco — amplifies the perception of energy and movement, transforming the surface into a vibrant and contemporary visual field.
Produced in just 40 numbered pieces, Vanity Fair XC In Motion is conceived as a unique collector’s item, designed for lovers of art and design. Each armchair is embellished with a gold-finish brass plaque on the back, bearing the product name and the progressive number of the limited edition, and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
A project that brings together art, industry and vision in a single gesture, celebrating 40 years of excellence and continuous evolution.
