After years spent on the minimalist end of the design spectrum, both professionals and homeowners are rediscovering the beauty of bright, bold hues. But while it’s common to infuse a punchy pigment on your walls or furniture, Samad believes that the best place for color is underneath your feet. Since its founding in 1985, brothers David and Malcolm Samad have sought to bring cutting-edge designs to the rug category — proving that your floor is a canvas for creative potential. And, thanks to its new selection of rugs, Samad is making a case for bringing color back.
“Color is so refreshing and it’s inspiring to use as a springboard,” explains Malcolm Samad. “It just makes people happy and creates a more inviting, open space.”
The company is embracing its bold streak with three deeply saturated collections — Ethereal, Taimany, and Malibu Reserve — all of which are hand-knotted and handmade by skilled artisans. Crafted in Jaipur, India, the Ethereal line uses a medley of rich red, verdant greens, and fiery oranges to evoke a painterly quality. “Each rug is a work of art, with colors flowing and interacting in a way that radiates life and energy,” Malcolm says of the collection’s sense of movement and depth.
Meanwhile, the Taimany Collection asserts that creativity knows no limits. As a partnership with ABC Italia, these one-of-a-kind Afghani rugs are both playful and sophisticated. “What sets Taimany rugs apart is the personal touch of each weaver,” says David Samad. “With no restrictions on color schemes or patterns, the rugs become a canvas for unbridled creativity. Each piece tells its own story, intricately woven with vibrant colors, traditional symbols, and modern influences, making every rug as distinct as the hands that crafted it.”
Both Taimany and Ethereal lines might honor an artist’s endless bounty of creativity, but the rugs from Malibu Reserve Collection look to Mother Nature for inspiration. Here, a tactile blend of wool and hand-spun silk showcase a shimmering effect that mirrors the sunlit waves along the California coastline. “Rich aquamarine shades evoke the deep ocean waters, while vibrant cabernet reds recall Malibu’s fiery sunsets,” Jennifer Samad, the brand’s marketing manager adds. “The combination of these colors results in a dynamic, artful rug that draws inspiration directly from nature.”
Of course, Samad’s collections aren’t just visually appealing: The company shares its rugs are certified by Label STEP, a Swiss-based non-profit dedicated to upholding Fair Trade standards and strict labor regulations. Thus, aesthetics and ethics go hand in hand.
Regardless of which style, pile, and shade you choose, Samad’s latest assortment is empowering you to embrace living in color. “By shifting away from the traditional neutral tones and embracing bold colors, we hope these rugs provide an opportunity to break away from the conventional and embrace more creative and daring interior design choices,” David says.
