STRANG, a Miami-based design firm renowned for its commitment to environmental modernism, has achieved top honors at this year’s American Institute of Architects (AIA) Florida Design & Honor Awards. Named 2025 Firm of the Year, this prestigious award highlights STRANG’s significant influence on Florida’s architectural landscape, as well as its dedication to innovative, resilient design.

The architecture, interiors, and landscape practice is widely recognized for its unique climate-driven approach, and has built a distinguished portfolio of thoughtfully composed modern residences since its founding in 1998. However, this marks the first time the talented team has received an accolade of this magnitude from AIA Florida. Other notable achievements include recognition on Forbes’ 2025 Top 200 Residential Architects and The Architect’s Newspaper Editor’s Pick for Best Practice (Medium Sized Firm – Southeast US), recognition as 2022 Firm of the Year by AIA Miami, and multiple AIA Florida and AIA Gulf Coast awards for various projects, including restoration work on the historic Gene Leedy Home + Office.

“After 25 years of building STRANG, it’s incredibly humbling to receive the AIA Florida Firm of the Year award,” notes Founder Max Strang, FAIA. “This honor reflects not just our projects, but our dedication to integrating thoughtful, climate-resilient design into every aspect of our practice. We believe deeply in the power of architecture to shape a better future, and this award energizes us to continue that mission.”

Dedicated to creating high-quality designs, Strang also consistently emphasizes academic and professional engagement. His design approach acutely considers the future impact of climate change on residential and urban development, underscoring the ongoing relevance of regional modernism to an international audience. Strang’s exceptional contributions have been widely acknowledged: he was elected to the AIA College of Fellows in 2016, named AIA Miami Architect of the Year in 2022, awarded the AIA Florida Medal of Honor for Design in 2018, and received the AIA Miami Silver Medal for Design in 2013—the highest honors bestowed by these respective organizations. Most recently, Wallpaper Magazine* recognized Strang as a “Tastemaker” in its USA 400 feature, dubbing him a “prolific Miami architect who brings tropical modern to the 21st century.”
