Mexico City-based design studio ERAN makes its U.S. exhibition debut this fall, presenting select furniture pieces at Colony in Tribeca in dialogue with the gallery. Part of Colony Presents, a newly launched week-long program created to introduce independent international studios and makers to the North American market, the exhibition offers an introduction to ERAN’s practice through works that move between furniture and sculpture while remaining, at their core, functional objects intended to be lived with.
“For years, I’ve been acutely aware of the lively and talented design scene coming out of Mexico City. Consequently, the opportunity to introduce ERAN to our market is a dream come true,” shares Colony’s founder and curator Jean Lin. ” [Founder Fernanda Diaz] and her team breathe both ingenuity and artistry into every piece – this collection is steadfastly functional, unapologetically decorative, and proudly Mexican. I’m elated that through our new Colony Presents program, we can begin to share international talent such as ERAN with the New York City market.”
Rooted in a fascination with the past, ERAN’s work draws from the forms, materials, and sensibilities of vintage and antique furniture, reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens. The studio’s relationship with antiques extends beyond inspiration as collecting, restoring, and curating antique furniture remain an active part of its practice.
Founder Fernanda Díaz began developing her own original designs for ERAN in 2022. Rather than responding to trends, the studio is interested in making objects with longevity intended to become part of a home, while developing a language of their own. Every piece is produced in Mexico City, where ERAN’s practice has developed through long-standing relationships with local craftspeople. For the studio, making is not simply a process of translating a designer’s idea into an object — it is a collaboration.
Among the works on view is the square version of the “Between Pages” Steel Book Table, a special-edition piece created with Colony’s founder and curator Jean Lin, and conceived around the relationship between furniture, books, and the objects we choose to keep close. Rather than treating books simply as objects to be stored, the table gives them an active presence within a room, integrating display and use into the furniture itself.
Presented alongside it are new works that take cues from furniture and objects from other periods, including the Stackable Stools With Table, a design that combines traditional woodworking techniques with unexpected materials. This special edition is upholstered using antique rugs where no two antique rugs are alike making each stool inherently unique.
The Vitral Stained Glass Lamp marks a new direction for ERAN and will be introduced at Colony for the first time. The lamp explores a technique and typology not previously presented by the studio, and is made through a meticulous process in which individual pieces of glass are cut by hand before being shaped and assembled piece by piece. Additional pieces on view include the Umbral Stool in hand-applied blue lacquer and the Cedro 01 Lamp, made of solid cedar wood.
“The U.S. has become a growing and meaningful market for us, and it’s been exciting to see how strongly our work resonates with clients here. I’ve wanted to find the right way to introduce ERAN more formally,” says Diaz. “Jean has such a strong reputation for supporting independent designers, so Colony felt like a very natural fit for us. It feels incredibly special to make our U.S. debut with someone who believes so deeply in independent design and in creating opportunities for studios like ours.”
The exhibition will be on view September 21–25, 2026, at Colony in Tribeca.
