This Sustainable Housing Solution Is Built With Natural, Traditional Construction Materials

Winner of the AR Emerging Architecture Awards 2019: Comunal Taller de Arquitectura

Comunal Taller de Arquitectura presented their work in the rural village of Tepetzintan in Mexico. The judging panel, including Anna Heringer – an architect and honorary professor of the UNESCO Chair of Earthen Architecture, Building Cultures, and Sustainable Development at Harvard University Graduate School of Design – applauded the practice’s advocacy for the community. In particular, Heringer cites Comunal’s fight against a political lobby that only supports replicable, commercial housing developments, rather than sustainable housing built with natural, traditional construction materials.
