Artist Ted Hartley paints tales and action in color. As an actor, studio executive, producer, former U.S. Olympian, and Navy jet fighter pilot, Hartley’s storied life set against a backdrop of America at peace and war shape his paintings today. His latest exhibition, the third in a series of showings at the Julie Keyes Gallery in Sag Harbor, NY, is highlighted by two new paintings proceeds to raise funds for the people of Ukraine.

“I want to inspire others,” explains Hartley, “to support the defenders in Ukraine as they fight against this brutal invasion.”

“Stories In Color” opens to the public on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022, and runs
through Thursday, December 1st, 2022. The exhibition features more than 20 of
Hartley’s works, with proceeds from the Ukraine Series benefiting the Olena Zelenska
Foundation, a newly formed charity of the First Lady of Ukraine. The Olena Zelenska
Foundation funds three significant needs: medicine, education, and humanitarian
aid. Hartley had the opportunity to meet with Mrs. Zelenska during her recent visit to
New York City. “I found her quiet strength and confidence contagious,” says Hartley,
“Proceeds from my Ukraine Series of paintings will go to benefit Mrs. Zelenska’s
foundation.”

At the heart of his work, Hartley is an expressionist with inspiration deriving from the
stories he paints. Intense color in motion and texture flow, conveying might, strength,
and power.

“Painting is a contemplative joy for me,” Hartley explains. “It brings the satisfaction of
expressing a narrative, a thought in color and brushstrokes, a source of quiet
excitement that I experience from little else in my life. I’m grateful to have the
chance to do this.”
