Discover: Two Brands Championing Style & Substance In Southern California

HOLLY HUNT EMBRACES LA

In what was once a 1940s-era corner warehouse sits a new destination for the design curious in the Los Angeles area: HOLLY HUNT has opened the doors to a new and unique showroom on North Highland Avenue in the city’s rising Sycamore District. Interior architecture for the project was led by Sharon Johnston of Johnston Marklee, who worked with HOLLY HUNT’s senior vice president and executive creative director Jo Annah Kornak to create a space that manages to speak to the elevated experience for which HOLLY HUNT is known and to the grittier, adaptive reuse vibe of the neighborhood and of Los Angeles in general.

The idea was to create a house-within-a-house effect via a pair of freestanding villas within the original two-story concrete structure. Throughout the space, design decisions pay respect to the building’s roots, showcasing high-design concepts in harmony with an industrial backdrop. The original concrete block outer walls, for example, are mirrored by an interior-wall installation of textured grey leather, divided in similar block formation. A series of curated residential interior vignettes that show the breadth of product and style available from the brand, fill the space with imagination and opportunity.

ARTISAN INSPIRATION

The evolution of a mutual love for colorful design and art, and Mexico City’s vibrant modernism in particular, Erik Lindström has launched a new collection of rugs from artist and textile designer Serena Dugan. Lindström was inspired by Serena Dugan Studio’s Condesa pattern, which itself was inspired by the work of Luis Barragan, the midcentury Mexican architect known for his geometric and colorful homes. Lindström’s desire to celebrate Dugan’s talent as a fine artist helped the duo identify the simple geometric forms and bold hues that would define the expressive collection. Three designs make up the new grouping—Condesa (pictured above), Polanco, and Roma—each named for an iconic neighborhood in Mexico City. The rugs are part of the Artisan Collection, and the three designs are offered in four colorways, with the option for customization as well.
