Untold Editions: An Artist-Led Gallery Model Emerges In New York

A new, artist-led gallery model in New York has officially opened its doors. Founded by Samantha Gallacher (Art+Loom) and Andreea Avram Rusu (Avram Rusu Studio), Untold Editions is grounded in the belief that designers should shape not only what they make, but how their work is presented, contextualized, and experienced.

Located at 20 West 20th Street, Untold Editions departs from the traditional curator-led gallery format, instead positioning itself as a living platform driven by the vision, material sensibility, and creative dialogue of its founders. Rather than presenting objects in isolation, the gallery is designed as an immersive environment that situates design within a richer experiential context.

Designed by the founders, intimate vignettes unfold to reflect their distinct yet complementary approaches. Large-scale lighting installations by Avram Rusu combine immersive compositions with subtle detailing, hand-blown glass elements, and nuanced color to shape visual atmosphere and spatial perception. Handknotted rugs by Samantha Gallacher introduce a bold, graphic dimension, where rugs become compositional elements that structure space as much as they inhabit it. Within this framework, each piece is positioned as part of a broader composition — where light, texture, and form interact to create a unified spatial narrative.

Furniture pieces extend this dialogue across materials and scales, with a particular emphasis on tactility. A carved wood credenza by Casey Johnson reveals an organic topography transforming a functional object into a sculptural landscape. Vintage seating was reimagined in Sandra Jordan’s striking ombre alpaca in hues of cream and brown, adding a rich dimension. A lacquered chair by Virginia Arlotto introduces textural contrast, combining a high-gloss finish with hand-applied rope detailing. A custom dining table designed exclusively for Untold by Avram Rusu expands with a marble top gliding apart in a seamless gesture and increasing seating capacity.

Additional works by Franck Genser, Manifeste Edition, Mary Ratcliffe, Billiani, Aguirre, and custom drapery by WOVN Home contribute to a curated environment defined by material integrity and artisanal production.

“We wanted to move beyond the traditional gallery model and propose something more intimate,” concludes Avram Rusu, “one that reflects how people live with design, where material, light, and form come together in a cohesive narrative.”
