See The Inspiration Behind The 2023 Junior League Of Greensboro Designer Showhouse

The Junior League of Greensboro opened the doors to its fourth Designer Showhouse this past weekend. The historic home, located in prestigious Irving Park and designed in 1941 by New York architect Charles C. Hartmann, is open for tours now through April 23, 2023.

We caught up with the nineteen innovative design firms who brought the space to life, to see what inspired them in designing their rooms, and what to expect when touring each beautiful space in person.

Porches | Kristin Bartone, Bartone Interiors
“The homeowner is very active in the community and wanted a front porch designed for entertaining family and friends. We added drapery panels to soften the architectural features and provide an ambiance of indoor/outdoor living. The all-season faux wicker settees provide a comfortable seat with very minimal maintenance.

The second-floor balcony is adjacent to a bedroom and serves as a more private space for outdoor relaxation. The teak outdoor sectional adds softness and beauty to the space, while the rocking chairs adjacent are great for an evening cocktail!”

Foyer | Emma Legg & Sydney Foley, Kindred Interior Studios
“Tradition meets the unexpected in this bold foyer that welcomes you to the JLG Designer Showhouse. Statement wallpaper featuring herons in flight, a nod to the homeowner’s love of the coast, are the first thing you’ll notice upon entering. Paired with an updated take on wainscoting, this juxtaposition is just a sampling of the rich contrasts to be found throughout the house.”

Powder Room | Beth Sink, Claude & Coy Interiors
“Our powder rooms are the jewel boxes of the home. Considering our mix of old and new with a gentleman’s vibe, we picked this horse hand painted wallpaper from the UK to set the tone. Paired with collected pieces, lots of details and original art this powder is sure to wow our homeowner’s guests.”

Office | Gina Hicks & Laura Mensch, Vivid Interiors
“Our goal was to create an office that feels sophisticated, masculine, and warm with a modern traditional vibe. It’s calm and inviting for taking care of business, but also cozy enough for lounging with a cocktail or two!”

Guest Room One | Nicole Culler, Nicole Culler Interiors
“One look at this newly designed guest room will make you want to stay a while. The blues and greens in this space evoke a since of calm. Truly a place one can relax in. A mix of organic and geometric patterns, blended with an updated traditional style, work seamlessly with the aesthetics of this 1940’s era home. While in the space one cannot overlook the original artwork locally sourced and the curated layers that welcome you.”

Daughter’s Room | Kate Hutchison, Kate.h.design
“My main goal for the daughter’s bedroom was to create a space that felt age appropriate throughout childhood, young adulthood, and beyond. The key was striking the perfect balance between bright and cheery warmth, and a sophisticated sense of calm. The room is both playful and a little moody, making it an easy space to grow up with and grow into.”

Upstairs Bathroom | Emma Millard, Realtor/Home Staging
“In coming up with the design for our Greensboro Showhouse guest bathroom, I wanted to make sure it felt bright, clean and refreshing to those who would be entertained in this beautiful, classic home. The color choices of Carolina Blue, white, and natural tones work wonderfully together to accomplish just that! I suppose as a Carolina grad, this little blue bathroom is a bit of a love note from me to the Showhouse and to the great state of North Carolina.”

Hallway/Laundry | Marie Cloud, Indigo Pruitt
“A wanderlust hallway that is not just a passageway but a curated experience.”

Guest Room Two | Dana Waldron, Murphy Waldron Interiors
“This entirely remade room honors the arts of design and craftsmanship from the era when the home was first made. The interiors are newly conceived and nobly crafted, authentic in character, yet, made for modern life. Finely-curated antiques, sumptuous fabrics and practical decoratives create a cozy, masculine bedroom.”

Primary Bedroom | Debby Gomulka, Debby Gomulka Designs
“Iconic rose quartz walls in a svelte finish set the stage for an environment of relaxation in the primary bedroom. A dazzling watery blue ceiling in a high gloss finish creates a luxurious experience while layers of pattern dance with an exciting array of luscious spring colors. A nod to the chic Palm Beach lifestyle, vintage inspired bed and hand painted furniture in a cornflower blue create a focal point for a stunning mix of florals in multiple colors and varieties.”

Living Room | Patti Allen & Stephanie James Goldman, Allen + James Home
“We wanted to keep the classic details of the room but making it more modern by creating a space that is inviting, while still using bold colors, curved lines, a mixture of materials, and unexpected design elements.”

Sitting Room | Ashley Ross, Muse Noire Interiors
“With a traditional take on the contemporary global design aesthetic we’re known for, this sunroom bar update lives at the intersection of class and culture.”

Family Room | Leigh Jones, The Very Thing Ltd.
Maximizing the abundance of natural light in this sunroom-like space, Jones is implementing rich colors, abstract expressionist art, and a mixture of fabrics to create an ambiance of relaxed elegance. Integrating warm hues of olive and paprika with neutral tones, this space is designed to impress while also providing recreational opportunities via the high end billiard table and large screen television.

Dining Room | Tula Summerford, Design by Tula
Design by Tula’s “Idyllic Garden” is an inspired take on the idyllic English garden. Enveloped in Sherwin Williams Manitou Blue, the rolling hills of Cole & Son’s mural wallpaper depict an idyllic scene of lush floral and strutting peacocks. To accent the wallpaper’s pastel pallet, dining chairs were upholstered in a geometric cut velvet that contrasts the traditional feel of the furnishings. Collaborating with lighting designer Louise Gaskill, Tula chose lighting with vintage Murano glass and hand-gilded gold to add an element of glamour to this dining room.

Breakfast Nook | Cheryl Luckett, Dwell by Cheryl
Cheryl Luckett’s design for the breakfast nook features a cozy, layered and colorful vibe inspired by the quaint bistros of Paris. Featuring products from her collections with Wildwood Home and soon to launch fabrics for Revolution Performance Fabric, the design beautifully combines the abundant natural light from the large bay window with rich saturated colors and lush textiles in time-honored botanical prints.

Kitchen Powder Room | Beth Clarke, Space Haven Home
“Powder rooms are the perfect place to push the limits and break free from the general design and aesthetic of a residential project, to create something fun and unexpected that homeowners and guests can enjoy. I wanted this small powder room to feel like a momentary escape to an exotic location. The color choices were inspired by warm, earthy Mediterranean tones, and the accents were inspired by Etruscan metallics and vintage handmade ceramics.”

Kitchen | CeCe Arenas & Ellen Peete, Guilford Plumbing Supply Inc.
“The secret ingredient for this small kitchen design is to keep it simple, clean and timeless. The Italian styling of Fulgor Appliances is the perfect touch of modern sophistication and continues through to the luxe finish of Italian painted cabinetry from Triad Cabinet Refinishing Experts.”

Mudroom/Utility Closet | Christy Day, Christy Day Designs
“Every space in your home has the potential to function effectively and look great. I was able to conquer the clutter and devise a plan to have this utility closet and foyer do both. All of your go-to supplies can be easily accessed, used and returned in an organized manner that creates a home with form and function everyday. Once you finish tidying then, close up your cleaning necessities and forget all about them until they are needed again for the next oops!”

Outdoor Courtyard | Lori Shaw, Lori Shaw Interiors
“I really wanted to create a garden paradise fit for many days and nights of special entertaining at this historic home.”
