Darcy Miro

For three decades, Brooklyn-based artist and designer Darcy Miro has worked across sculpture, jewelry and architectural-scale metalwork. With her recent works in ceramics and furniture, Miro set off to document the small, chaotic rituals of ordinary life. “I observe everything in my daily life,” explains Miro. “The water drips on the edge of the sink, the arrangements of leaves on the sidewalk. The controlled or random details are critical.” This obsession with the ordinary transforms the domestic into works of what Miro calls “matriarchal storytelling” — vibrant, sculptural pieces for daily use that reflect and celebrate the frenzy of mundanity and motherhood.

Marie-Rose Kahane

Founder of Yali Glass, Marie-Rose Kahane is keenly aware of the human legacies behind various types of craft. Her practice is deeply rooted in liberated curiosity and experimentation with materials, leading her beyond her roots in glassblowing and woodworking and into engaging with bronze. “Bronze is an ancient and ancestral material,” she states. “Working with [it] moves me deeply.” Through employing a lost-wax casting technique, Kahane’s work expresses her appreciation for beauty found in ancient materials and forms, reimagining them in a thoroughly contemporary way.

A teaspoon originally modeled in ceramic was Kahane’s inspiration to begin working with bronze. Made of visually raw and delicate materials, the new collection of spoons calls to mind ancient and familiar forms, functioning both as daily utensils and timeless sculptural artifacts.

dumæ

Fashion has long set the standard for material innovation, craftsmanship and product development. Drawing on decades of experience as fashion executives, dumæ co-founders Kym Gold and Sakshi Khurana are employing a similar approach to interior design. Working alongside artisans in India, dumæ seeks to translate the importance of longevity and timelessness into a collection of structured objects and textiles that augment the spaces they’re in and memories they create.
