At The Foot Of The Jeseníky Mountains, Two Buildings Pay Homage To Local Architecture

Nestled at the foot of the Jeseníky Mountains, in the recreational village of Filipovice in the Czech Republic, CL3 designed two apartment buildings whose contemporary, almost minimalistically simple concept is a freestyle transcription of the traditional local architecture.

Topped with timeless gable roofs, the design relies heavily on traditional forms and materials. The wooden cladding of larch shingles from the local forest, which will darken over time, is a free paraphrase of the facades of local barns, and residential buildings. The crystalline shine of the colored glass mosaic, together with the strictly square windows of the same frame color, are set in contrast to the naturally greying cladding, adding a colorful accent and vibrancy to the buildings.

Inside, the residential spaces are designed using sand-lime brick walls with reinforced concrete monolithic ceilings. Pops of the same vibrant colors that line the window frames brighten up the stairwells, and define each individual building.

The apartments have been designed to be as self-sufficient as possible in respect of the mountain environment – the only supplied utility is power. Heating is based on a ground–water heat pump, common areas are equipped with air recuperation, water comes from its own well with water-supplying equipment, and wastewater will be disposed to a domestic sewage treatment plant with cleaned water absorption to the ground.
