Renowned for an audacious design sensibility and unapologetic flair, designer Sasha Bikoff has infused her signature vibrancy into a dazzling new collaboration with S. Harris. The collection of fabrics and trims is a dynamic celebration of color, creativity, and fearless expression.
Sasha joins us this week to share insight into the design process.

Raymond Paul Schneider: When did you first start developing this new collection?
Sasha Bikoff: I started working on this collection in 2023.
RPS: What was your initial inspiration, and where did the idea(s) come from?
SB: The initial inspiration came from this television series I was watching at the time called Feud: Capote vs. The Swans. The show was all about the swans of 5th Avenue. I began to think about fashionable women and some of my favorite runway moments. I was inspired by the ideas of fashion, interiors and chic women living in New York society spanning from the 60s to the 80s. The fabrics are named after some of those women and how their style inspired the fabrics.

RPS: Describe your overall creative and design process.
SB: My creative process is about blending different inspirations into an imaginative story. I see myself as a storyteller, drawing from art, travel and everyday details to shape a narrative. From there, I use color, texture and form to bring that story to life in a way that feels layered and intentional.
RPS: Did you have a specific audience or theme in mind?
SB: There is such a wide range of styles and motifs that I feel like this collection can work for so many people of many different ages, as well as many different types of homes. There are some more classical patterns, some more contemporary fabrics, some things that work well for the country, some the city, some the beach. It is a collection that expands a lifestyle for someone who conquers it all, like me.

RPS: What methods, tools, and materials did you use to develop and prototype this design?
SB: We played with a lot of fun tools, especially in the trim. We have chainmail, ancient coins, pearls and such. This was especially interesting to me as I am a lover of trim.
RPS: Did you use any new techniques or technologies to conceptualize or create this product?
SB: My main approach to conceptualizing and creating was through mood boarding and extensive research. I tend to immerse myself fully in the process — often staying up late into the night exploring references, trends, and inspirations.

RPS: Were there any challenges that influenced or changed the final design?
SB: We had to produce many strike-offs for some patterns to get the colors just right. However, I would say the most challenging part of the job was editing down the collection. There were so many other ideas and things that were so good, we didn’t produce.
RPS: Describe your brand’s overall DNA and ethos.
SB: I think my brand DNA is striving for uniqueness, maintaining a certain level of sophistication and luxury whilst being fun and frisky!
