Canada’s preeminent architect and urban planner, Arthur Erickson reshaped West Coast architecture with his work on the Montiverdi Estates. The 1979 landmark residential development in Caulfeild, West Vancouver sensitively integrates 20 unique residences with the sloped forested setting. One such post-and-beam landmark is now on the market – Montiverdi House #8.
Each of the 20 residences responds to the site conditions, varying from a low spreading building to one with an increasingly vertical presence. The single-family home at #8 exemplifies Erickson’s innovative blending of modern architecture with nature. A ground-level orientation effortlessly bridges indoor and outdoor space, providing access to private garden courtyards.
In appearance, a stately geometry pairs with a minimalist cedar and glass material palette, creating an open, elegant, and truly modern home. Careful site planning and expansive window walls suffuse the house with light, revealing intimate views to an exquisite natural setting, including landscape design by Cornelia Hahn Oberlander.
“Whichever way the houses are arranged, they automatically compose themselves with the trees and rock face,” Erickson remarked upon the project’s completion.
