pat-kim-1image008ASPIRE DESIGN AND HOME is excited to share the latest pieces by Pat Kim, a Brooklyn based, high-end furniture designer and toy maker. Kim has ventured off to create simple, fun and functional objects that call attention to the unique properties of the material they’re made from.

The vases series, titled “Formations,” is created from untreated southern yellow pine. Kim was inspired to use this material after seeing the eroded wood, which was leftover from a nearby renovated pier. The southern yellow pine is cut down against and with the grain to make the surface appear as if it is marbleized; the wood is then bleached and stained. The bottom has a leather base to prevent scratching on surfaces. The cracks and splits throughout the vases are natural.

The vase series is available at Still House.
