Grounds for Sculpture, the sprawling, 42-acre sculpture park in Hamilton Township, NJ offers more than a striking stroll of contemporary art and exotic landscaping. Its indoor galleries feature works by artists whose media include recycled and natural materials.
Jae Ko’s “Force of Nature, Shiro” was inspired by the glaciers she saw at Glacier National Park and was assembled from over 20,000 pounds of recycled Kraft paper. The work is 80 feet long and seems to undulate. “It’s not just one glimpse,” says Tom Moran, curator and artistic director. “You have to look at it over and over again to see how it changes.” Runs through February 7, 2016
Robert Lobe’s “In the Forest” features aluminum wall sculptures. “For over 40 years, Lobe has been traipsing through the woods,” shares Moran. “He takes sheets of aluminum, forms skins around trees and stones, and then takes them back to his studio in Newark. The only person he’ll take into the woods with him is his wife, Kathleen Gilje.” Her exquisite forest paintings in many shades of gray are also on display.
