For the ASPIRE DESIGN AND HOME Spring issue, designer Brad Ford articulated what goes in to his creative process.
“I’ve always been drawn to spaces that are highly edited. I tend to like simplicity, but there’s a fine line between subtle and boring. With fewer pieces come fewer opportunities to make bold statements, so you have to really think about the forms and materials being used as well as scale and proportion. I like strong, organic shapes and natural materials that are plush and textured. I also like rough-hewn woods and leather; things that bring an earthiness to a space. All of this combined can still create a dynamic space, but it requires just a bit more thoughtfulness and strategy. I always say you can get someone’s attention just as much by whispering as you can by shouting.”
