Building For the Future, SGA Promotes Five New Partners

SGA, a leading architecture firm with offices in Boston and New York, is pleased to announce that Adam Spagnolo, Gable Clarke, John Sullivan, Matt Michel, and Michael Schroeder have been appointed partners.

The new partners, all previously directors and principals in different divisions at SGA, bring the number of SGA partners to eight alongside founding partners Al Spagnolo, Bill Gisness, and Jeff Tompkins.

The larger partnership will be vital to spearhead the growth of the company, which continues to innovate the design process with new technology and delivery methods. The appointments coincide with new projects such as Redgate and Hillco Global’s L Street Station Redevelopment in South Boston, Skanska’s Two Drydock, CL Investment Group’s 287 Park Ave South in Manhattan, and HFZ’s North Station District in North Philadelphia


Gable Clarke IIDA, LEED AP Partner, Director of Interior Design | Gable leads SGA’s interior design department and provides solution-oriented, thoughtful guidance and direction throughout every aspect of the design process. With over two decades of industry experience, she joined SGA in 2004. She has overseen commissions for a variety of clients in Boston and New York, including Oracle, TJX, Communispace, RueLaLa, Shire, Cumberland Farms, Infinidat, CarGurus, Autodesk, and LogMeIn. She taught at the Boston Architectural College for 10 years, and is actively involved in the New England Chapter of IIDA, having received their Leadership Award of Excellence in 2016. Gable grew up in Georgia and Florida and lives in Hingham, MA. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Milligan College and a Master of Science in Interior Design from Florida State University.

Matt Michel AIA, LEED AP Partner, Architecture | Matt manages large-scale and complex projects for the firm such as Alexandria Real Estate Equities’ 50+60 Binney Street and 225 Binney Street in Cambridge, MA, totaling over 1.2 million square feet. He joined SGA in 2000 and was promoted to principal in 2008 after successfully managing commissions such as the 770/790 Memorial Drive incubator labs in Cambridge, the GTECH high-rise tower in Providence, Brown University’s new facilities building, and National Grid’s Special Operations & Control Room reconstruction in Northboro, MA. With Matt’s penchant for details, he also focuses internally within the firm on risk management, code compliance, and quality control processes. Matt grew up in Kingston, RI and lives in Melrose, MA. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech.

Michael Schroeder Partner, Director of Virtual Design and Construction | Michael brings together design and construction teams to proactively solve the unique challenges facing large developments. He joined SGA in 2014. Recent projects include Alexandria Real Estate Equities’ 50+60 Binney Street, Autodesk’s BUILD Space, and Skanska’s Two Drydock. Prior to SGA, Michael was a strategic consultant to well-known international clients such as The Royal Commission of Saudi Arabia and Skanska. He was also a lecturer at Harvard University, where he explored topics in parametric design and taught courses on Building Information Modeling. From ‘Big Sky Country,’ Michael was born and raised in Montana and currently lives in Dover, MA. He received a Bachelor of Architecture from Montana State University and earned his Master in Design Studies, with distinction, from Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Adam Spagnolo Partner, Director of Marketing + Business Development | Adam leads the firm’s quickly expanding New York office. In addition to strengthening SGA’s footprint throughout the Northeast, Adam’s responsibilities include business development, company-wide marketing and communications, operations, and oversight of multidisciplinary teams. His unique style and detail-oriented approach are critical to the firm’s success. Adam is the son of founding partner Al Spagnolo. He worked for the firm prior to moving to New York in 2004. He rejoined SGA in 2014 after spending 10 years as a director of creative operations for industry leading retail brands. He grew up in Lynnfield, MA and currently lives in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Adam received a BFA in Communications Design from Syracuse University.

John Sullivan AIA Partner, Director of Architecture | John leads SGA’s architecture studio, managing the firm’s major commissions in the mixed-use, office, life science, and higher education sectors. He joined SGA in 2005. His creativity and commitment to design excellence have resulted in SGA’s award-winning contributions to the built environment; 225 Binney Street was awarded ENR’s Best Office/Retail/Mixed-use Development in 2014. Recent architecture commissions include Alexandria Real Estate Equities’ 50+60 Binney Street, Skanska’s Two Drydock, Boylston Properties’ Linx, and The Davis Companies’ ARC. John oversees the firm’s large-scale master planning commissions including Redgate and Hillco Global’s L Street Station Redevelopment in Boston, The Matthews Company’s Rolling Mill Hill master plan in Nashville, TN, and HFZ’s North Station District in North Philadelphia. John grew up in Bridgewater, MA and currently lives in Norwell, MA. He received his Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degrees from Virginia Tech.
