On July 15th, 2020 the internationally acclaimed Miraval spa and wellness brand was introduced in Lenox, Massachusetts. Named Miraval Berkshires, the much-anticipated resort is the brand’s third property, joining its locations in Tucson, Arizona and Austin, Texas. The resort sits on 380-protected acres and offers a diverse range of year-round programming that encourages guests to celebrate the Berkshires’ rich culture and history.
Designed by Clodagh, who also designed the spas at Miraval Arizona and Miraval Austin, the 100 guestrooms and suites are relaxing havens inspired by country house glamour and idyllic New England comfort.
Clodagh said, “What better setting for Miraval’s new location than the Berkshires? Pure air, big skies, rolling hills, a center for crafts, arts and music venues, the sheen on the coats of well-groomed horses and endless paths through old growth woods. No wonder Edith Wharton was inspired to write some of her insightful novels from ‘The Mount,’ her home in the Berkshires!”
The Great Hall’s grand architectural barn space encourages community through multiple gathering spaces- the generous dining room, intimate art-clad vestibules, large boutique, bar lounges and educational rooms are grounded by massive fireplaces where one can sit and enjoy a cocktail at sunset.
Rope-like luminescent fiber-optic braided ropes are suspended from the 21-foot ceiling, accentuating the drama of the height of the building and referencing the industrial and agricultural material contextual to the country.
For materiality, quilted plaids are a nod to the local quilting craft. The interior of the Great Hall is sheathed in reclaimed barn wood, complemented by earthy grey concrete floors- both of which provide grounding to the otherwise open-plan, dramatic height space. Generous sofas, lounge chairs and tables made of repurposed barn wood offer understated luxury and comfort.
Featuring the wellness design modalities (such as chromatherapy, healing art, light, water and sound, biogeometry, aromatherapy and feng shui, among others) for which Clodagh is known, the rooms evoke memories of firesides in a warm knit sweater or breathing in pine-scented air on a brisk fall hike. Each guestroom features a Tibetan singing bowl, meditation cushion and guided meditation channels available on your television.
The spa is the largest of the brand’s spas at 29,000 square feet and 28 treatment rooms. Indoor/outdoor pools, relaxation rooms, sauna, salon, steam room and a spa retail boutique may also be found in the spa.
Clodagh’s design for the spa was conceived to excite all of the senses and encourage mindfulness, wellness and introspection. All of the Clodagh elements are in the design: earth, water, fire and metal. Guests will experience a “path to wellness,” a meditational walk through a wood clad portal designed to encourage a serene state of being!
The spa treatment menu features recipes of organic regional plants, often grown on-site at Miraval’s own organic gardens. Hiking, walking and biking trails, as well as stables and a golf course complement the breathtaking views at the resort.
