Andrew Joseph: Can you describe your design philosophy in three words?
Mallory Robins: Individual, fluid, feet-up.

Elizabeth Bennett: Curated, contextual, chic.

AJ: What is the most important element in a successful interior design?
MR: That it reflects the client who inhabits the space.

EB: That it strikes the perfect balance of form and function!

AJ: What is your favorite design era and why?
MR: Ah! This feels nearly impossible to answer. We pride ourselves on compiling genres and eras in our design – can you really pick a favorite child?

EB: Well, I have an only child! So, while inspiration certainly comes from all genres and eras and I am a serial flip-flopper of favorites, I have always been in awe of the International style, especially given context for the time in history that these guys were designing.

AJ: What is the most challenging project you’ve worked on and how did you overcome it?
MR: A project with small scope and an untrusting client. We got there in the end, but it was a great learning lesson to focus on projects where we can go “all in” with the client and the creativity. We tend to find the larger the scope, the bigger the trust, and the more amazing the end result and client experience.

AJ: What would your dream project or dream client be right now?
MR: A boutique hotel.

EB: A remake of the Practical Magic house. That whole house is perfection and I’d love to do a historic seaside house like that one day.

AJ: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as a designer?
MR: Ask big, get big. If you don’t throw a few wild ideas at the wall, you’ll never see one through.

EB: Go with your gut. Your first instinct, impression and wild idea is usually the best one.

AJ: How do you stay creative and inspired?
MR: I still love to hold a piece of paper and absorb beautiful imagery. Put the phone down and soak up a good magazine or coffee table book (yes, I do read them!), in the early morning light.

EB: I know it’s cliche, but I think travel is truly the best way to get outside of your routine and really give yourself the chance to take things in. I’m a big sensory person, so I really stress the importance of smell, music, and lighting in creating the perfect feeling.
