Designer Friday: An aspire Exclusive Interview With Lindsie Davis

After earning a degree in visual studies, with an emphasis in printmaking, from Texas Tech University, Lindsie Davis began her career in the field of art education. Throughout her career, she gained a love of how art and textiles join seamlessly to tell a personalized story within the world of interiors. It is the passion that forged her career in interior design. Lindsie founded Blueberry Jones Design with a goal of creating a company that not only focuses on the design, but also incorporates her love for the unexpected moment that art can bring to one’s life. When creating beautiful spaces, Lindsie approaches the room as she would a piece of artwork; the client is her muse while design is her medium. Lindsie currently lives in Wimberley, Texas with her husband Spence and daughter Spencer, whose nickname Blueberry inspired the name behind her company. She has recently been awarded one of Austin’s Top Designers of 2022. You can find her joyful work sprinkled all around the greater Texas Hill Country and Austin area. See these luxurious interiors in today’s Designer Friday.

Andrew Joseph: What inspired you to become a designer?
Lindsie Davis: Thunderstorms. Growing up we often had thunderstorms. My mom loved to use the day wisely and rearrange the furniture. We would flip rooms and give them new life and purpose without ever spending a dime. I learned how to visualize a room, where I could see the space before creating it, measure with my feet, and eyeball the perfect height for artwork. Fast forward to my future self when I realized that I could make a career doing this, and it was like, “Game on.”

Blueberry Jones designed a serene retreat where rustic beams meet sleek, modern fixtures. Herringbone tile complements the natural light that bathes the room.

AJ: Can you describe your design philosophy in three words?
LD: Personalization, each project is a unique reflection of my client’s personality and lifestyle, ensuring their home tells their individual story.

Trust, I work to build strong relationships with my clients, grounded in trust and respect for their time and vision, which results in a hands-free experience for them.

Relationships, fostering business through lasting relationships, ensuring clients and industry partners feel valued beyond the project’s completion.

AJ: How do you approach a new design project?
LD: By observing and listening. I am a super observant person, so I prefer to sit back and listen to the stories and hear about the things that work and don’t, see how a space is used or wishes to be used. Once I get a sense of who my client is and their lifestyle, then the creative juices start to flow and create.

AJ: Can you tell us about a design trend you are excited about?
LD: Dopamine Décor. I am all in for personality, color and creating spaces that feel good!

This chic space effortlessly blends textures and tones. Playful art pieces add a pop of personality, ensuring the room feels both designed and lived in.

AJ: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as a designer?
LD: One of my favorite builders, whom I still collaborate on projects with, once told me, “Don’t be scared to speak up, they put their pants on one leg at a time too.” Funny and definitely something that has stuck with me. I may not always have the most experience in the room, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t have an idea that isn’t just as great.

AJ: Can you tell us about a specific moment in your career that made you feel accomplished?
LD: The first time I was hired for a project, and when I received my first design award. Both were a sign of recognition that I was on the right path, and that was and continues to be the best feeling.

This living room elevates the ordinary with luxurious touches, from the tall windows that invite the outdoors in and spotlight the high ceilings and textured fireplace, to the tastefully arranged shelves that offer a personal yet minimalist warmth.

AJ: What is your favorite aspect of the job?
LD: No day is ever the same, and I am constantly using my brain.

AJ: How do you keep up with the latest design trends?
LD: Honestly, I try not to, as it gives me anxiety to try and “keep up.” So instead, I remind myself that trends come and go, while great design stays forever.

AJ: What is the most important skill for a successful designer?
LD: Listening. We are all creative problem solvers, that’s part of why we are in this profession, but if we don’t listen to the needs and wants then we are less likely to have a successful end result.
