The Delaware designer has been crafting inspired interiors for over a decade, both urban and beachside, residential and professional. With a bubbly personality, an undeniable charm, and a penchant for ensuring client meetings are fun and something to look forward to, Megan is one of Delaware’s most beloved design talents. Get to know the radiant Megan Gorelick in today’s Designer Friday, and take a look at two of her interior projects below!

Mixing floral and feline patterns, Megan creates a colorful and cohesive bedroom.

Andrew Joseph: What are three things you can’t live without?
Megan Gorelick: My daughters Bailey, Bryn and Lilly, my husband David, and tea.

Andrew: Favorite app?
Megan: Instagram

Andrew: Secret talent?
Megan: I pick up on people’s vibe really quick!

Andrew: If you had one more hour in the day what would you do with it?
Megan: Yoga

Andrew: What’s inspiring you in life (in the industry) right now?
Megan: The answer to both is Instagram!!!

Andrew: Best advice you’d give your teenage self?
Megan: OMG, now that’s a book I haven’t written! I preach to my daughters on a daily basis, which is why they are the new and improved versions of me. It appears they have drunk a little bit of my kool-aid. Here’s the CliffNotes (or I think they are called SparkNotes now) version:

  • Don’t worry what anyone thinks
  • Follow your passion and what makes you excited
  • Pursue what you love vs what will make you $. The $ will follow.
  • Care and take pride in everything you do
  • Be impeccable with your word and be honest and keep your promises. I am constantly saying, “You told the man you could do it”
  • Everything comes down to two things, fear and love; make all choices from a place of love
  • Be comfortable now, uncomfortable later and vice versa

Andrew: What are some of the podcasts you listen to and why?
Megan: First of all, anyone who knows me knows that I am ADDICTED to podcasts. I’m pretty sure I was patient zero, the very first person to ever listen to one! The minute I meet someone, I say: “Hi, I’m Megan, I have 3 daughters, and let me tell you what I just heard on this podcast today…” It is nauseating!

Here are some of my current favs: I love Gary Vee. His thought process resonates with me! I also love Armchair Expert with Dax Shepherd; he is such an evolved man! Goop is a favorite, mostly when Gwyneth is interviewing peeps! She too is so evolved! I love Business of Home’s podcast—Dennis Scully is such a great interviewer and, of course, I love the content!

Andrew: Best way to take a rest/decompress?
Megan: Still trying to figure this out!!!

Andrew: Favorite city to recharge?
Megan: Charleston! This city has it all, beaches, shopping, art, architecture, food, culture, charm, water, history, hospitality, churches. I LOVE it!!!!!!!

Andrew: Favorite place to view art?
Megan: I am going off the board…My favorite place to view art is when I’m snorkeling. In my opinion, the most beautiful art is at the bottom of the sea! I wish I could say scuba diving – it would make more sense – but I have never been!

Andrew: Best gift you’ve ever received?
Megan: My daughters!

Andrew: Best gift you’ve ever given?
Megan: My daughters!

Andrew: What’s your favorite board game?
Megan: I call them bored games because they bore me, but if I had to pick, I would say Monopoly since it reminds me of the beach!!!

Andrew: Least favorite color?
Megan: I have two: maroon because it was my catholic grade school uniform color, and brown because it was my catholic high school uniform color. Ugh to both!!

Andrew: You are stuck on an island, you can pick one food to eat forever without getting tired of it, what would you eat?
Megan: Pizza!

An industrial-chic light fixture illuminates this room with a view.

Andrew: A dessert you don’t like?
Megan: I thought I didn’t like key lime pie, but I was just in Charleston and Alex, our server, brought us one to celebrate my daughter Lilly’s birthday. It was delish!!!

Andrew: Favorite scent?
Megan: The smell of my daughters getting ready to go out. When they were in high school and would be breezing out the door, I would witness the carnage of clothes all over their rooms and think “at least I love the smell of these pretty girls!”

Andrew: If you made a documentary, what would it be about?
Megan: My Family! I am obsessed with my family, starting with my parents, siblings, husband, children, nieces and nephews. I can’t even imagine how intolerable I will be when I eventually have grandchildren!

Andrew: Last piece of content you consumed that made you cry?
Megan: We were just on vacation and my daughter put iPods, ear pods, AirPods, whatever they are called in my ears and proceeded to play this really mean game where she kept putting on songs that she thought would make me cry. She and her sisters would die laughing every time I wiped a tear away while laying on a lounge chair by a pool. So cruel!!!

Andrew: Sweet or savory?
Megan: Savory!

Andrew: Who is your ideal client?
Megan: We have been fortunate enough to have worked with both her and him. They are fun, kind, open-minded, and collaborative; they don’t always know what they like, but they know what they don’t like and aren’t afraid to express it. They are honest. They are trusting. They let us do our job. They have ideas they want to share and personal items they want to incorporate. They value good quality but appreciate yin and yang (high/low). They appreciate art, but it doesn’t necessarily need to be expensive art; they understand the concept of art as beauty. They choose quality builders and architects. They understand and value our systems and processes. Most importantly, my ideal client understands and appreciates how hard my team works, how much my team cares, and how they keep the momentum moving!

Andrew: If you could switch lives with someone for a day who would it be?
Megan: Any one of my daughters! That way I would be much younger, the new and improved version of myself. I would have all of the access to my wisdom and life experiences, and would still be surrounded by all the people I love!

Andrew: What are you most excited about at this time in your life?
Megan: OMG, I am so excited about life that I cannot even see straight! I really need to just freeze everything right where it is. My family is happy and healthy! My parents are both alive, well and madly in love. My dad is almost 93 and my mom is 88, and they’re celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary over Memorial Day weekend! I love, love, love what I do for a living and the people I get to serve, both my team and my clients! I have a super supportive husband and lots of supportive family and friends. There is such great design inspiration, motivation and education everywhere. I love all of my travel experiences and the fabulous people I have met through design development groups! I love all of the support within the industry from vendors, editors, marketing people, artisans, builders, architects, tradespeople and especially other designers! How lucky can a girl get?!

Andrew: What’s one thing that is always in your refrigerator?
Megan: Something expired! I am not much of a foodie. In my next life or, hopefully, chapter, I will be! My husband David and my daughters Bailey, Bryn and Lilly are all obsessed with food! All three daughters are College of Charleston girls, minored in hospitality, and practically majored in finding the latest and greatest eateries! They are horrified when they see my refrigerator on an unannounced visit!

Andrew: Before leaving the house, you always…
Megan: Make sure I have a hot tea!

Andrew: What is one Instagram account you can’t live without?
Megan: There are three, the accounts of my three daughters. I especially love their stories. It’s how I feel I keep up with their days. Can you tell I am obsessed with them?

Andrew: Who is a contemporary inspiration in your field?
Megan: Definitely Kelly Wearstler!
