Andrew Joseph: If you were a Crayola color, what color would you be?
Nicole Hirsch: If I were a Crayola color, I would most certainly be a shade of white. Something timeless enough to always stand on its own and be elegant but can be mixed with any other color and still be compatible. White makes people feel fresh and alive and works design-wise in any setting whether it’s in a glass high-rise in the middle of the city, an oceanfront cottage or a sprawling suburban colonial. White provides a sense of calmness and is never jarring or busy to the eye. White is zen.

AJ: What was the last book that you read?
NH: The last book I read was Counterfeit by Kristin Chen. It’s about two women who become entangled in a scheme importing counterfeit luxury handbags out of China. It’s exciting, fun, has amazing characters and is about fashion… so it marks all the boxes for me!

AJ: What is your dream project?
NH: I love when people ask me about my dream job… bc we honestly are working on what I would have said my dream job was just a couple of years ago! New construction and gut renovation homes (from the city to the suburbs) where we get to affect the entire design process from start to finish. Getting to curate every trim detail, plumbing fixture, stone and tile selection through furnishings and down to the last accessory. I think my team and I manifested this for ourselves, as we have been really blessed to have a consistent stream of these incredible projects. My new dream job would definitely be to get my hands on one of the new, gorgeous restaurants going up in Boston. I would love to work on something where lots of people could enjoy the space. I love dining out in Boston, so if the worlds could collide, it would be pretty awesome.

AJ: What is your favorite piece of clothing that you own?
NH: Favorite piece of clothing is most definitely my black leather moto jacket from All Saints that I purchased probably 10 years ago. Like a fine wine, leather definitely gets better with age. It is so broken in and the shape is so gorgeous. I wear it with dresses in the Summer and with a thin sweater underneath in the Winter. The silhouette is still perfectly in style and is irreplaceable since the leather has now worn to the most gorgeous faded black. If my house was on fire I would most definitely grab it from the closet on my way out.

AJ: If you had one more hour in a day, what would you do with it?
NH: If I had one more hour in the day, I would try to get to Pilates more often. I just started classes at a local studio on the reformer machines and I absolutely love it. With my meeting schedule lately, it’s been very hard to get to workout classes consistently but I feel so much healthier and have a clearer mind when I can get in a class every day. 2024 goals, I guess!

AJ: What is your idea of beauty?
NH: I have two young daughters who are 8 and 12, so my idea of beauty has definitely shifted as I view the world through their eyes. They are both so confident, fun and smart and I always tell them, “You are so beautiful, not just because of your face, hair or fashion sense, but because you just exude a joy that makes people want to be around you.” I think that’s what really creates beauty. Being a person who others love having in their presence and who adds richness to the lives of those around them. And having on a killer outfit on top of it all is just the icing on the cake!
