Andrew Joseph: If you weren’t a designer, you’d be a ….?
William Lyon: Landscape architect. Before going to school for Interior Design at HPU I seriously considered going to be a landscape architect. I grew up LOVING to garden and still find so much peace in creating a beautiful outdoor space.
AJ: Favorite piece of clothing you own?
WL: My one-of-a-kind vintage eucalyptus green reversible bearded silk kimono. Damn that thing! I say that because I found it while shopping the flea markets in Dumbo with my younger sister almost two years ago and I have never figured out how to style it properly. I love it so much, and it brings me so much joy to own, but I am still working on how to style it.

A glam girl’s bedroom dazzles with a lacquered purple ceiling and a glass bubble chandelier.
AJ: Favorite tea to decompress, and in what mug?
WL: Mint tea with half of a lemon squeezed and local honey in my plant mug.
AJ: What would your dream project or dream client be right now?
WL: Hands down, Tracee Ellis Ross is my dream client. Always has been. There is something about her outlook on life, contagious energy, sense of style, and love of color that just has a hold on me.

This simple yet impactfully-designed dining area is filled with green and brown hues and features a circular wooden table and pale green upholstered chairs. A brass ring drum chandelier casts a warm glow on the green built-ins adorning the walls.
AJ: What is your favorite cocktail?
WL: Anything whiskey based. In the summer a fresh whiskey smash (the lemon and mint just screams summer to me) and in the winter either a whiskey ginger or a whiskey sour with frothed egg white.
AJ: What’s inspiring you in life (in the industry) right now?
WL: Freedom. Freedom that clients and designers feel to express themselves through their homes. That and the uprising of ‘clutter core’. I have always loved tchotchkes and this whole idea of organized chaos really speaks to me. I love a space that reflects the homeowner. Good riddance to everyone’s house looking the same!!!
